Impressive Hawkeye Recruiting

I don't really blame Fran for Ulis. If Calipari comes a calling with a starting spot on the line 95% of prospects would pick Kentucky over anyone else unless there was location issue. Just the way of the world.
If this guy ends up ballin for the likes of Kentucky, Fran will most definitely be to blame.

Can't say Fran isn't trying. Now he just needs to seal the deal.

I am not singling anyone out here - specially not mopkins - but I am curious - what are Tyler Cook, Joe Wiescamp and Pat Mac? Are they not sealing the deal on top talent? I got no issues with people wanting better, I do too...but the whole "now he just needs to sign one of these guys" ....well he's over that hump, well over it.

I'll take it a step further and I'll use some quotes from this very thread to illustrate my point.

"At least we seem to get more interest under Fran than we did with Lick, when it was like "Eh, thanks but no thanks"

"Offering kids isn't impressive. Getting highly ranked or good kids to sign is. Lets not put the cart before the horse here."

"I'll really be impressed with Fran when he lands one of these guys."

"Can't say Fran isn't trying. Now he just needs to seal the deal."

I guess what I am asking is this... if Tyler Cook, Joe Wiescamp and Pat Mac aren't "elite" enough recruits for the "he needs to seal the deal" crowd - what kind of kid will it take to satisfy you? Top 10 kids? Cause I just don't think that's gonna happen at Iowa unless the kid is born and bread here. ...and the fact is, if you're not one of 2 or 3 ELITE schools in the country you're in the same exact boat as Iowa in this regards.

The point is... Fran is SIGNING...not just offering some of the best talent Iowa has had at it's school in 20 years.

Fair enough. If Locure turns out to be good enough to even get a scout look from Kentucky, Duke or NC then it will definitely be egg on Fran's face. I don't know where the relationship stands currently but I have good authority that Iowa has not put the full court press on the youngster. Recruiting can be tricky with projections of ability years ahead of time, but if another elite talent level PG leaves this state again then by all means that lands on Fran's shoulders. However there is the caveat of the possibility that we land some higher ranked or even to PG than Locure and in that case I will default to Fran's opinion and evaluation.

Fran has had some near misses that would have (could have) put Iowa into that next level or a Big Ten title. Talking Ulis or Paige type of players. While yes, when kentucky or UNC calls you almost have to go, it would be nice to land a kid like that.

Thats not taking away from Cook or Bohannon. Cook was a high level recruit with big time offers.

If McCaffery can keep getting 4 star recruits on a regular basis and mix in a couple of his gems in the rough, we are going to be in pretty sweet shape.

Before Fran, were we getting any 4 star recruits? I think he is showing progress. You can't go 0 to 100. You have to go 1, 2,3,4 5 and so on until you reach 100. It is a process you have to build on block at a time. If we won as national championship, we could do it a lot faster. However, only one school wins a NC every year.
