Impressions on who might finish off the '11 recruiting class

LOL, what in the world are you talking about? Kids go to "elite programs" for more national exposure, better facilities, chances for national titles, etc. Thinking Iowa recruits a different type of athlete is ridiculous, just look at all the kids that Iowa offers that end up at "elite programs".....
Iowa is not yet an elite destination for the top players so its really only the instate kids that come to Iowa because they've dreamed of it for years. The other kids come because its a good program and they believe they will be coached up and have a real good chance of playing alot if they do. Face it, there is only so much room on the field and if all the players at your position are top notch what are your chances.

Agreed.

Hey homer,

what are the odds of poteat pickin Iowa here soon?

Dunno. Considering how badly I've seemingly whiffed in some of my assertions about Hayes ... I'm not certain I'm very good at drawing inferences about recruits at some of the skill positions.

My gut feeling is that getting Poteat away from some of the in-state schools will still be a challenge. At least that was part of my impression concerning Hayes too ....

Would it be prudent to leave a couple spots open for the post NC, coach firing, and LOI signing week;)

Graduating Seniors by position:
QB: Stanzi (1)
RB: O'Meara, Morse (2)
WR: DJK, Sandeman, Chaney, Nordman, Evans, Kuchel (3 scholly,3 walk-ons)
TE: Reisner, Furlong? (1 or 2)
OL: Vandervelde, Koeppel, Haganman (3)
DL: Clayborn, Klug, Ballard (3)
LB: Hunter, Tarpinian, Petersen (3)
DB: Greenwood, Greiner (2)
K/P: Murray, Donahue (2)

Iowa is looking at replacing approximately 20-25 guys on the roster.
Currently today Iowa has commits from the following position groups:
QB: 1
RB: 0
WR: 3
TE/LB (Athlete): 4
OL: 1
DL: 2
DB: 0
K/P: 0

I think they still bring in another WR in this class, Arnett would be quite the haul but not sure if he be the one.

One of the biggest areas of concern but it's also one of the harder positions to recruit is DB. It would be nice to bring in a couple of good DBs. As we've discussed on here at different times, the scheme Iowa runs with their DBs may not be appealing to the top DB recruits becuase they want to develop their man-to-man skills. Iowa runs primarily a zone coverage scheme.

The thing about that list is that Iowa has an experienced upper-classman tonstep into every one of those spots, except punter and we all know the Thunder from Down Under is going to make the transition from Donahue pretty painless.

When could the Hawks ever say that? This isn't 2005 when we were replacing NFL draft picks with overmatched underclassmen.

Fair statement CAAR... I'm convinced we have some great depth right now and that allows for great flexibility in recruiting- the ones that need time to develop get that luxury and the ones that can step in and compete don't just have the job handed to them.

We may get to see French play this position this fall.

SPGroth -

Where is ND recruiting him at? Still on D?

Also, if ND is recruiting him on D ... does he appreciate how good Iowa is at developing LBs and DEs?

If I were an in-state kid at Iowa and I had great potential at LB or DE ... I'd find the Hawk program extremely attractive.
