Immediate transfer available. Time for Fran to take one.

Would like Fran to at least give these kids a shot though.

The kid might be a great athlete, but he sounds like a ball hog. He was their leading scorer and made less than thirty percent of his three pointers. Iowa has enough guards for next year, but they could use an athletic small forward or power forward. If White moves to power forward, I think Atwood probably would be a small forward and play some power forward.

I think he started out at USC, so this would be his 3rd school. 2nd chance is 1 thing, a 3rd chance, well sounds like the guy just doesn't get it.

BillBuckner makes a great point, its one thing to bring them in, its another to get it all to work. If it fails, well I can only imagine the reaction and negative impact on the team.

At first glance it sounds like this kid was not well liked by his teammates. Of course, there are often two sides to each story and maybe it's related to the lack of leadership provided by Rice. Not sure if ISU is interested or not.

Do you see it working next year without a transfer or juco coming in with athleticism? Might as well roll the dice.

Iowa already has a juco point guard coming in next year.

I think we stay the course. Recruit the best of young players, keep them 4 years and develope them. Will pay off in the long run. 4 years does not build a program.

Has anybody heard anything about White being able to graduate early (after this summer potentially) and then being open to transferring out? Some friends were talking about things they have heard on other sites and such. I don't think he would do that, but then again, he seems like a quiet kid which is opposite of Fran at times.

I think the 5th year graduate transfer rule is complete BS. I would like to see how these graduate programs they have to switch schools to pursue actually align with the undergraduate degrees these "student" athletes earn. I would also be interested to learn if even one masters degree has been granted as a result of this loophole. My guess would be no.

Allot of programs don't have the luxury to keep players for 4 years anymore. It's the same for your North Carolina's Duke and Kentucky but in reverse with two or three guys leaving for the NBA after one or two years. You have to reload quickly in college and you can do that if you have a high enough caliber athlete that doesn't need a huge amount of prodding. If your system works with taking young high school kids that still needs his nose wiped and diaper changed the first couple years than I guess Iowa will have to accept the talent pool they can recruit. If Fran could bring in a player that could start playing right away he would. Fred can get production out of a transfer quickly, not seeing Fran doing this or if he has the system that would benefit a transfer coming to Iowa.

BTW--this immediate transfer rule is becoming a bit of a farce.

I don't see why people get worked up about it. After all, these are student-athletes right? Do we want it both ways?

They get heavily criticized for not taking school seriously, leaving school early, being all about the money. Why not allow those who have worked hard and graduated early to take advantage of their remaining eligibility?

I'd bet the kids falling into this category are the type (usually) that don't cause a lot of problems and make the most of the opportunity during the season and in the grad program.

Yet jarrod Uthoff had to sit a year.

Apples and oranges. I don't see why we would want to penalize players for graduating early although I'm sure the NCAA will figure out a way to justify it when the bluebloods put enough pressure on it because lesser known programs are able to reload their rosters in a similar fashion to the big name players.
