Imagine This Scenario

The Michigan job is so funny. If Harbaugh had beaten OSU say twice during that time he'd not even be on the hot seat to the extent that he is. Bo Pelini says that shouldn't get a guy fired but what does he know.. haha

Yep, he beats tOSU this year he's good. That rivalry is huge.

Ya think so? I kinda think that guy is biding his time waiting for the ND job to open up. By staying at ISU this yr and turning down gigs it feels like he's not inclined to just chase another stepping stone job and I feel like his 2 main places would be ND and OSU. I don't see OSU opening up anytime soon but ND I could. Kelly has been there awhile now and it's been a roller coaster for him. Say he wins a NC in the 2 or 3 yrs I could see him walking away and in slides ole Campbell.
Michigan, ND, tOSU...all marquee jobs. Michigan is clamoring for a winner, though they're getting a bit "Nebraska-like"...Harbaugh isn't exactly Scott Frost. He won 10,10,8,10 and 9 games his first 5 years. If they bounce back from last year's cluster and win 8, 9 or 10 again and he gets fired... who'd want to walk into those kind of expectations? See Nebraska and Bo Pelini.

Michigan is still a respectable-ish job. Even more recognition and history than nebraska (but don't tell their fans that). nebraska is a total dumpster fire and not a situation that's fixable, and no one's going to want to go there if they care about their career. It's become the place where coaches go to die at the hands of inbred hillbillies.

If Campbell is truly a good coach and can go in and make changes, Michigan would be the place to do it. Notre Dame would be even more pressure, no way Harbaugh would've lasted as long there as he has at Michigan.

I also think fnas there are tired of Harbaugh's psychosis and they want a regular coach. Every time I watch a Harbaugh interview or presser I can't help but think there's a lot of brain damage there. I mean he's just sooooo frickin weird. The stuff he says is completely out in left field and he's always got that 1,000 yard stare.

No doubt Harbaugh is a strange bird. (and what's with the "Khakis" nickname? It's not like he's the first or only coach to wear khakis...wtf?).

Michigan is a much more prestigious institution than Nebraska (says Captain Obvious) in every way.

Oh hell yes whenever Michigan opens up again they'll have no shortage of good candidates. Not many folks would turn it down. Would Campbell is the question? That'd be crazy tough to do but if he's more of an ND/OSU guy maybe... I'll say this if he were to turn that down then I bet I'm right as to why. Timing is everything and how long does one bide their time at ISU waiting for their 'dream job' to open up. Dude isn't putting 10 yrs in Ames is he? Even as young as he is that seems nuts to me.

Back when he got hired he got a lot of attention because he only bought one style and color of khakis which were the Walmart house brand. His wife gave him shit in interviews. He said he did it so he didn't have to spend time making a decision on what to wear, and how every decision not concerning football is a distraction, but to me it's a bunch of bullshit attention whoring. A whole lot of people with a whole lot more important jobs than his wear different fucking pants once in a while.

And even if that were the case, it sure as hell hasn't helped his results.

True. But unlike Nebraska, Michigan is still a blue blood and a top notch name. Fading some, but still a lot to draw in a quality coach.

It's the mark of a sociopath. This is the same line that lady who ran Theranos said.

He has to leave after this year. The conference changes could really impair their recruiting and that thing could be a total fire in 3 or 4 years. If you're Campbell and you recruited Purdy, you ride that wave and let him get you out of there. There will be at least two marquee jobs this year.

If I were Campbell I'd let it slip through anonymous sources that I was looking. That would create additional opportunities all by itself.

Michigan and Nebraska are both fading in football, but Michigan is a slow burn and Nebbie has been and remains a dumpster fire for close to a decade now. Michigan has at least been nationally relevant here and there of late.

While academically and reputationally, Michigan is far and away a better place to recruit from, Nebraska has one intrinsic advantage. Its not in Big10 East. Think about it. If you were the hottest coach outside of the BCS conferences and had to choose between these two schools, which one gives you the best opportunity to compete for division/conference titles? Would you rather have OSU and Penn State ahead of you, or Wisconsin and Iowa?

Also, Nebbie has a bigger homefield advantage. The Big House is a big yawn.

And, anyone can get into Nebraska. Michigan has academic standards.

Yeah factoring in the uncertainty of that conferences hence ISUs future that makes sense. A lot of it. So we'll see...
