I'm scared of who Iowa may hire

If it's not Pearl I'm not sure where Barta goes that will be a meaningful hire.

Barta might be handcuffed with who wants to come here. I don't want any mid-major guys but I am nervous the pickings might be slim. The names below frighten me in terms of being Iowa's next coach.

Brian Gregory
Craig Robinson
Gary Close
Keno Davis

I just think these guys are not really much of an upgrade over Lick. Especially if you pay 2.4 million to buy him out.

Barbee wouldnt scare me at all - would be excited. I wouldnt mind Gregory. The other three, no thanks, but I will get behind any coach as long as this current joker is outta here.

Today sux because nothing's going to happen, but I still find myself checking the message board every 15 minutes. So it's either speculate or go do something with my wife...

So here it goes,

Pearl
Dixon
Wright
Some other high profile major coach
Keno
Top assistant - maybe Forbes from Tenn
Jacobson
Other Mid-Major Coach
Harrison Barnes' Mom - for recruiting purposes

I'd rather have Lick than any of those guys to be honest.

Herky - not sure I understand why you think Lickliter would be better, its been prooven the guy cannot coach, recruit, retain players at this level. I'd rather take a chance with me coaching than to repeat the last 3 years.

I just think the buyout is a big reason why I don't want those guys. You don't do that and bring in someone who is a "ho hum" hire. None of those guys have had consistent trips to the NCAA's.

Home run hires would be....

Pearl
Buzz Williams
Scott Drew (yeah he's not clean, but he's done well)

Perhaps Gillispie in terms of a name. Not sure about his off the court issues though.

Can Barta get any one of them to come to Iowa City? If not you are looking at a list like the one that scares me.

I had come to the realization that Lick was going to stay and I was OK with that as long as these things occurred

No one transferred
All recruits made it in
No big injuries (not in his control)
They contended for an NCAA birth (if it expands to 96 teams then make it to the big dance)

He was going to be walking a tight rope next year if everything went perfectly.

It sounds to me like player(s) will walk if Lick is back, so I for one say anyone or thing is better than Lick next year.

Dont get me wrong, I would prefer the coaches in this order, I am just saying, we cant do much worse than the current situation.

Bruce Pearl
Scott Drew
Lon Kruger
Billy Gillespie
Mark Turgeon
Steve Lavin
Buzz Williams
Tony Barbee
Brian Gregory
Chris Collins
Russell Springmann
Randy Bennett

Lavin would be a fantastic hire I think. He probably loves his job right now with ESPN but he'd get people excited again. Isn't Kruger totally happy where he's at?

I'm pretty confident that any of those coaches could lead us to double digit wins in a year, so I'd be excited about any of them as they would all be an improvement. IMO, anything would be better than suffering through 9 win seasons, transfers, poor recruiting, 19 point first half's, loosing to 100 year old rivals by the most in the history, etc. etc. etc.....I don't think it will take much to have a significant upgrade.

As they say, change is a good thing and that certainly will be the case with Iowa basketball....I have zero doubts about it.

What about Bruce Pearl? Wasn't he a D2 and then a mid-major coach before he took over UT. How about Bo Ryan? Tubby Smith? I mean the list could go on and on......

Some work. Some don't. So far Iowa is 0-2 with mid major guys. That's enough for me.
