I'm perplexed that Davis...

...doesn't attempt to get Canzerri out in space in the flat. I like his chances vs. LB's cause he has some juice in the open field. Two WR's clear out the wide side and he gets matched with LB - maybe he's saving it for tOSU :D

Despite the semi-hostile atmospere in Ames, Hawks should run it down their throat if the Panthers did it we ease - Go Hawks!

I think we'll see him more as we move into the B10 season. Remember he hasn't competed against BigTen teams yet - just OU. Seems a bit like a secret weapon if you asked me.

A secret weapon is only good if you eventually use it. Otherwise who gives two rat farts.

Guess what!?

I got a fever, and the only cure is more one yard out routes on 3rd and 3.

Gotta have more one yard out routes on 3rd and 3 baby.

Couldn't agree with you more. He and Powell need to get the ball more. I'd like to see a play where both of them are in the backfield in the shotgun. Have them run a wheel route or an option route depending on the coverage. Talk about putting linebackers in a tough spot.

Does this not sound like what so many teams have done against the hawks through the years?

I'm sure GD read on a message board that Canzeri is transferring so he didn't bother to put him in the offense.

I think Canzeri and Powell will both get a little more work this week. I hope so anyway. I'd like Powell to get 2-4 targets and Canzeri to get 6-7 carries. More if they are effective.

That said, Powell has great speed, but misread the long pass against North Ill. and dropped an easy pass last week. He will get more comfortable with more reps...but there is more than just being really really really ridiculously fast.

I want them both to play...and perform well. They'll get some chances. Powell should be gettin up to speed(no pun intended) at this point.

Don Shumpert drops just about every pass thrown to him, yet he keeps getting put on the field. I don't understand why.

I have no valid argument to refute this. The only thing I can think of is the guy is a "practice" performer and just goes fetal under the lights. You can only give it so many trys before you have to stop trying, agreed. He did make both catches thrown to him in the 2nd half, so who knows....maybe a "light came on"...there is evidence that it may have been more of an abberation that something that should be expected to continue.

Has it occurred to you that Iowa may not have shown their complete offensive package in their first two games?

I keep hearing this lately. I understand that every team will put more plays or wrinkles to plays as the year goes on. However, our BASE offense should be able to score more than 28 points against the sisters of the poor. Maybe we should have used a play or 2 more in the 2nd half of the N. Illinois game......you know so we could try to win......I know it's a crazy concept lately.

If this is true, they may have wanted to unleash said secret offensive package again NIU. I want to believe we have some wrinkles to show but we don't have the luxury of "holding back" right now. We need to be at are very darn close to full strength starting this week.

I am guessing it has to do with his blocking. Not sure how well tevaun smith has picked that up. Not an excuse from me just a guess

It's sometimes expressed as playing an upperclassman who under performs over a Freshmen, it sometimes manifests in overly conservative play-calling, and it's often revealed with a lousy understanding of momentum and when to put the hammer down... but all these things are essentially the same thing;

Under-utilization of talent, in the name of "risk management".

In a program where, as many point out, recruiting is challenging... you better be using all your available weapons to their potential. That's one of the keys to Northwestern's success.

This gets brought up every year, they are not holding back. However, considering the issues we have with basic offensive plays Im sure our opponents would love to see us try something more complicated.

I am starting to fall in line with TM when it comes to Cazeri, this dude better be the second coming of Barry Sanders, I think Nico Law is jealous of all the attention this guy is getting. one big run in a spring game and 58 yds. on 16 carries against Oklahoma in a bowl where he was pretty much was crappin his pants i think i am going to hold off before i give him the next Reggie Bush label.

When the program is where it is coming into the year there is no place for holding back. Then we'd be no better then ISU. They could say that's what they did against UNI leading into playing Iowa. So lets hold back so we can throw the whole book at the clones.... Yea no lets use all our weapons often all game every game and try to win. I sure hope the staff didn't had any of those thoughts in either of the last two games.
