I'm not a believer yet....

That this team is making significant progress. Guess I'm scarred after the past 3 years because I kept hearing "we're turning the corner" after we either won at home or stayed close to a Big 10 Big Boy team only to find out that we hadn't. By the eye test, I see a team that looks more athletic and is improved but we've been let down too often before.

I'll believe we've turned the corner if we don't have only 18-20 points at halftime of any of the next three road games, Purdue, Minnesota and OSU. Even Lick's teams could play good teams tough at home so you show me some higher point totals and not being down 20 at half and I'll start to believe.

I agree that we showed progress during each season under Lick. However, I will say that the progress under Fran is much faster. We'd look much better in February under Lick. We aren't looking half bad under Fran, and haven't been for a couple weeks now. This team certainly isn't "terrible".

We all know this team isn't great, but the style is more exciting, and you can see real effort. We obviously need a little more talent, but with the option of immediate playing time, we may be able to get an impact player or two. It will take time, but I think we are finally going in the right direction. But then again, I really hated the Lick era, so I think ANYTHING is better than watching that style of basketball, including watching paint dry.

Definitely not a terrible team at all. Yeah the talent level isn't there, but there certainly is some talent. Iowa lead at half against ISU, Wake, and OSU. That says something. But it's a lack of depth that hurts.

It's just too early to tell. It will be interesting to see how they start off next year. The players will have had a year under Fran to get a better understanding of the system and an off season to work and further develop their skills.

Agreed.

Going to find out real quick when this team goes on the road in the big 10 just what it is made of.

bcl20, if you don't love it......leave it!! Nobody will miss your in depth thoughts on the Iowa BB program.

I am sold for this reason, Fran brought in more talent in one recruiting class (Freshman) than any previous coach since Tom Davis. Yeah, jump on me with Horner/Brunner, but you will see, in the end, that these freshman will have more wins in their careers and win one or two NCAA tourney games once their careers are over, yeah shoot me for that bold prediction, that is how much I believe in this coaching staff.
Iowa will be a more consistent program under Fran, the only real issue right now is depth, I wholeheartedly believe we would have at least 3 more wins with more depth, but that isn't reality. Depth is coming in the form of two quality shooters, lets see how much more talent Fran can add if he fills both open scholarships, he will fill one for sure, IMO, and we will see how much better the freshman and Cartwright are in year two. Iowa played teams close under the previous regime because that was the style of play, low scoring keeps you in games, but it didn't work out too well toward the end of the season last year.
For those that think this team is terrible, don't come back to the bandwagon when they begin making the tourney year after year.

Well which is it? This team has not made any significant improvement or they seem to pass the eye test by looking more athletic and improved? Seems like a contradiction to me. This team lost Fuller, one of the best players and is clearly better than last year. They are learning a new system, Gatens is getting healthy and all the freshmen are contributing. They lost Payne, who would be helping out at this point, and still they are better than last year. And Bcl, you are clueless!!!

You shouldn't be. This team is terrible.
Here's a novel idea........pull your head out of your a$$ and actually watch a couple of games. You are a grade A jacka$$ and it shows.:D Now go root for UNI, ISU, or who ever the hell you want. WE DON'T NEED YOU HERE!!!

I certainly hope your blog is about something other than college hoops. You know zero about basketball. I know you want to get under everyone's skin but you have to actually know something...a couple of facts to support your position...before your pointless comment/post can even be elevated to the level of being an opinion. Anyone that knows anything about college basketball knows this team isn't "terrible."
