I'm more sad than angry....

I'm not in the KF hater camp. I find it hard to hate a man that has done as much for the university, both on and off the field as KF has. From the BCS games to the conference titles to the top 8 finishes to the NFL players he's produced to the work and money he and Mary have donated to the childrens hospital over the years. I dont hate the man for taking the salary the athletic administration has offered him as every last one of us would take it as well. I cried right along with the man after his 1st B1G victory over MSU, after the PSU victory following the passing of his father. I cheered right along with him after his first bowl win and he proclaimed Iowa football was back, after beating Minn in 2002 to complete our first 8-0 run in conference, and after our first BCS bowl victory in 2009 since the 1950s.

Because of that, I'm more sad than angry. I'm sad because its now painfully obvious that this ride is over. We are 12-12 since the debacle vs Wisky in 2010 and there are no signs, either in talent or in passion, that we are anywhere near being able to turn it back around....and as a guy who respects KF as both a coach and a person, thats a hard thing to admit. But i love the Hawks more than i do KF....and the continuing losses to double digit underdogs, the lack of a cohesive gameplan game in and game out, the continual mistakes on the most common sense situations (wisky fake punt, minny onside kick, cmu onside kick, etc) make it plain as day to even a KF supporter like me that a change in leadership is required. Its not enough to change coordinators or "tweak" things....what is required for iowa football to be successful again is a complete overhaul in leadership, direction, and ideas.

KF will always be a Hawk....one of the very best....but its time for a new head Hawk.

I'm not agreeing, or disagreeing with this you, but it is well written. Hats off to you for using some logic in reaching your conclusion. Unlike most around here.

It is like when you were younger and your Dad says "I am not even angry, I am just disappointed in you" and you know that you fu@$ed up way more than you even knew

The success you identify with respect to KF has happened after 2 separate 3 year periods when people are saying the same thing you say here. In 2000, we were saying the same thing, in 2007 we were saying the same thing. What happened? 2002 Orange Bowl 2009 Orange bowl.

Seriously, it is hysterical watching Hawkeye fans refuse to accept the pattern, particularly enough to make you sad.

This is almost to the point of codependency. You know he's going to drink again, but you just keep thinking he won't. Then when he does you just know he will never stop.

I have seen you post this repeatedly. Are you guaranteeing a great 3 year run starting next year?

I almost hope we suck 2 years from now so CAARHawk's stupid theory doesn't come true.

Very well said OP ...
I remember that debacle of 1st season under KF and wondered if Iowa would ever compete for Big10 championships again. We had a great ride under KF in the first half of 2000's. We have been mediocre since then. I have hope for the next couple of seasons since we will once again have alot of seasoned players.
One thing that is hurting us is losing players early to the NFL. I know alot of schools have this problem.
But we don't have players waiting in the wings to step in and take their place and not miss a beat.
It is beginning to feel like the latter years of Davis regime. They were never horrible ,but you never felt satisfied with were the program was headed. The bottom line is KF is here thru 2020 unless things go to hell. Then we could only afford to buy out a couple of years before that. I hope KF can get things going in the right direction. I want him going out on a high with us wanting him to stay. I don't think it is good for a program to be defined by the head man that runs it. IOWA is the program. Not KF.

Here's the thing.

People keep pointing to 2010 as a down year. That was the third 8 win season in a row. It was NOT a down year in KF's pattern.

So, no. This is year two. Next year will be year three and then things will turn around. But, they might begin to start looking up next year.

However, the schedule is murderers row for the Big. Particularly when you consider Hoke and Meyer will have another year of development for their strong classes.

What's the pattern again? I can't seem to remember it.

Just keep crying and hating girls.

Luckily, I was able to go watch another FBS team destroy an opponent tonight. I still am a Hawk, but I understand the reality of what the program is under KF. Enjoy the good runs and chill during the bad ones.

But it is fun watching you all go bi-polar every few years.

Hey guys, some stuff happened a few years ago that has nothing to do with now. That's totally predictive of something.

And I totally invented a pattern by remembering that games happened. And in those games there were results.
