I'm not in the KF hater camp. I find it hard to hate a man that has done as much for the university, both on and off the field as KF has. From the BCS games to the conference titles to the top 8 finishes to the NFL players he's produced to the work and money he and Mary have donated to the childrens hospital over the years. I dont hate the man for taking the salary the athletic administration has offered him as every last one of us would take it as well. I cried right along with the man after his 1st B1G victory over MSU, after the PSU victory following the passing of his father. I cheered right along with him after his first bowl win and he proclaimed Iowa football was back, after beating Minn in 2002 to complete our first 8-0 run in conference, and after our first BCS bowl victory in 2009 since the 1950s.
Because of that, I'm more sad than angry. I'm sad because its now painfully obvious that this ride is over. We are 12-12 since the debacle vs Wisky in 2010 and there are no signs, either in talent or in passion, that we are anywhere near being able to turn it back around....and as a guy who respects KF as both a coach and a person, thats a hard thing to admit. But i love the Hawks more than i do KF....and the continuing losses to double digit underdogs, the lack of a cohesive gameplan game in and game out, the continual mistakes on the most common sense situations (wisky fake punt, minny onside kick, cmu onside kick, etc) make it plain as day to even a KF supporter like me that a change in leadership is required. Its not enough to change coordinators or "tweak" things....what is required for iowa football to be successful again is a complete overhaul in leadership, direction, and ideas.
KF will always be a Hawk....one of the very best....but its time for a new head Hawk.
