I have been wanting to do this for awhile, as I have felt that certain officials have been "negligent" in how they call the games this year, compared to how they should be called based on the new rules. In Iowa's losses that have happened in the states (No Villanova game as those were not Big Ten refs), I have the officials listed below along with the ft attempts for each team.
Opponents have attempted 211 ft's in these games compared to 182 for Iowa. Yet for the season, Iowa has attempted 447 ft's, which is 75 more than any team in the Big Ten (Wisconsin is next with 372).
@ Iowa State: Kelly Self, Tom Eades, Mike Sanzere - 36-21 ft attempts, advantage for ISU
@ Wisconsin: Tom Eades, Tim Clougherty, John Gaffney - 35-25 ft attempts, advantage for Wisconsin
@ Michigan: Tim Clougherty, Gene Steratore, John Gaffney - 21-16 ft attempts, advantage for Iowa
Michigan St: Larry Scirotto, Mike Sanzere, Mike Eades - 43-20 ft attempts, advantage for Iowa
Ohio State: Terry Wymer, Earl Walton, Donnie Eppley - 24-19 ft attempts, advantage for Ohio State
Wisconsin: Mike Kitts, Pat Driscoll, Lewis Garrison - 13-9 ft attempts, advantage for Wisconsin
@ Minnesota: Earl Walton, Paul Szelc, Donnie Eppley - 29-22 ft attempts, advantage for Minnesota
@ Indiana: Gene Steratore, Bo Boroski, Mike Eades - 38-22 ft attempts, advantage for Indiana
So after looking this over, does anyone think that we have lacked "aggressiveness" in getting the ball inside in some of these games and changed our game plans? Or do we just have 6 officials such as Tom Eades, Tim Clougherty, John Gaffney, Mike Eades, Earl Walton & Donnie Eppley that just don't like us and our style of ball?
Outside of the Michigan State game where we shot a lot more ft's than them, and only +5 vs Michigan in ft's attempted, we have been out-shot at the stripe quite a bit.
Also, don't forget about the horrible non-travel calls against us at home on Appling (MSU) for the breakaway layup & Jackson (Wisconsin) for the 3 in the corner to Gasser that led to clutch baskets for the opponent.

Just comparing free throw attempts to try and illustrate how bad officials are is completely pointless. You dont tell us how many free throws were attempted in the last couple minutes because Iowa was trying to extend the game. How many 3's did Iowa attempt in comparison to the opponents? You are less likely to shoot a high number of free throws if all you are doing is shooting jump shots.

Just a follow up. Iowa State and UNI have each lost one conference game. This guy reffed both games. He also did the Iowa-ISU game. He obviously waited until halftime to decided which team to make lose, since he hates all Iowa schools. I guess he hates Iowa the most.

I realize we have lots of problems and he's not one of the biggest one, but we're 0-4 in games this guy refs this year. We're 1-2 in games his son refs. Do they sit around at Christmas dinner and talk about how much they hate Iowa? I went back and watched a game he did earlier in the year. He runs up and down the floor near the sideline. The reason I did this is because I noticed last night that he was running 6-8 feet from the sideline because Crean was so far out on the floor. Isn't there a coaches' box? I hate this guy. His kid's an idiot, too.

Wow now we blame the refs for losing,impressive.Doesnt matter what sport your playing or how old you are the one thing all coaches tell you is don't let the refs dictate the outcome.

At no point did I blame the refs. Just said that he sucks and we're 0-4 with him. Lighten up Grandpa.
Yes that's what they tell the players. It sends a message that you have to give 100% effort and only worry about what you can control. As a fan it's ok to admit the truth. That mistakes by officials can change the outcome of close games.
