illini giving up ??

Just look at the talent on that team now. Just imagine how a much more uptempo system would work for Illinois. Getting beat by Nebraska is the embarrasing, icing on the cake. BW has to go. This is good news for Iowa fans for this season, as Illinois has it packed away already.

Not good for Iowa fans we want Weber there as long as possible.

That's the point. Look at Miami in football. You can have all the talent in the world in your backyard but if you don't get the right coach or get the right players to buy into the system it isn't always pretty.Plus its much easier in bball to get kids from out of state and one or two true stars can make a difference between a below .500 team and one that goes deep in the tourney. Not to mention look at all the talent in Iowa over the last few years. Illinois is no more of a huge threat to the B1G then Iowa is.
the iowa talent and the talent out of the chicago area are not even comparable. and if you think Iowa and Illinois are on the same level as a program goes, you're kidding yourself. you forget that Illinois played for the national title in '05?

Who the hell cares what level the program is at? Its about coaching. Where was Iowa football the 20 years before Fry came? Duke bball before Coach K? All it takes is a coach and players that buy into the system if that doesn't happen you are going to lose games. As for Illinois' runner up team wasn't that done with Self's recruits? Similar to Mr. Davis's first year here no?

As for better talent in the Chicago area? Of course there is but what I was saying is one team can't take them all.

your statement was that illinois is no more a big threat to the big ten than Iowa is. except they are and Iowa is not. they have more tradition and recent success, and they have far better in state recruiting grounds. thus, they are more of a threat to the big ten.

Illinois will get a good coach, count on it. and they will be "back" sooner rather than later

weber have 2 conference titles and 6 ncaa tourney

weber did the majority of his damage with his predecessor's players. ie went to the championship his 1st yr as coach. each yr following has gotten slightly worse. he is a good coach but has been shown as a bad recruiter and hasnt developed much.

when you get to the championship game your 1st yr you have high expectations. when you dont live up to those expectations you get canned. i think it is all but written. the only thing that may save him is a 1st yr ad that decides to give him 1 yr to fix things. but i think he is gone either way after this yr or next.

I suspect BW to be gone after this year. The Illini have too much talent to not be a 1st division team in the B1G.

Recruiting isn't Weber's problem. He gets a lot of talent to campus. Developing that talent and getting the kids motivated to play together in a winning scheme is his issue.
Everyone says what a great guy he is, but he is going to be unemployed here shortly.
