I'll ask it...Do we accept the Detroit Bowl bid?

I understand the extra practices/game argument, but there is a certain humiliation factor with this game.

For starters, it's Detroit in mid-December. That's just double humiliation.

But what worries me even more is a potential loss to Northern Michigan or whatever joke of MAC directional school we're likely to play. If that happens, we've been humiliated on three fronts.

Thoughts?

We don't accept and here's why: we don't get the offer. No way they wouldn't take Purdue at 7-5 with a win over us.

Absolutely accept any bowl game. Just for the extra pratices, it would appear we could use it.

You really think they would turn down a bowl invite? Wow, you people really need to step outside and get some fresh air.

whys that?

Purdue doesnt travel

Yeah...because Iowa fans are going to be so pumped about Detroit in December after going to Arizona last year and Miami the year before. Also, why wouldn't Purdue travel seeing as it's their first bowl game in how many years?!?!

Seems like more reason to invite Purdue than Iowa. Guarantee Iowa fans don't spend their money in this economy on going to Detroit.

Downtown Detroit rules...casinos, ripper joints etc. Iowa fans will travel anywhere. Purdue fans will not travel to 8 mile

The money factor isnt even a consideration. The Big Ten gives an allowance to each team...based on their bowl...some spend more money than they are budgeted, but they dont 'lose' money as the Big Ten pools revenues after the allowances, and splits with all 12 members. So when there are stories written that Iowa 'lost XXXX dollars' going to a bowl, it's not true on the macro

And yes, they accept any bowl bid

Jon, do you know how much Kirk gets for a bowl win? I imagine he receives a bonus for that and you know Kirk won't turn down a chance to pad the ol' bank account.

the University of Iowa will never turn down a bowl bid, unless there is some scandal during the season or something outrageous like that. Not gonna happen, so conversations like this are just whizzing into the wind.

Well, since we have apparantly already lost our last two games, why don't we just quit playing games now, decline the bowl, but then get the extra weeks of practice we would have gotten, had we accepted it.
