I hope they beat Illinois as that would be fun and entertaining to watch. If they don't well that's just par for the course.
As much as I would like to see Iowa be really good in football and basketball I've come to the conclusion it is not likely to happen as long as the people at the very top at the U of I are around. Just think about it for minute. When was the last time Iowa made it to a finale four in basketball? Almost thirty-five years now.
I am am the type of person who believes you should never do anything half heartedly. I've known guys that have spent their lives trapped on a production line and never tried to do better. Never tried to get that next step, that next promotion. I don't judge them, it is what it is. Every person has the right to choose what they want and expect out of life.
iver the many years on this forum and on other forums I've noticed people saying the are concerned or worried over an upcoming game. I try not to chuckle about it but really think about the big picture. No not life in general, but Hawkeyes sports. Thirty-five years since a final four appearance. I think this sets a definite trend don't you.
Whats the the big deal about just making the tournament and losing in the first round? It's not like we Kentucky, Kansas, or Duke. I know , I know, we can only hope right? The odds and history are not in our favor. Born and raised in Iowa the HAWKEYE state. Proud to be a Midwesterner because of the terrific work ethic that instilled in Iowans.
You would have to live here in the south to get a deep appreciation for that. The general population here is about as lame as human being can be when it comes to work ethics.
Iowa is my team and always will be but I at this point I am not going to lose any sleep over how the basketball team does on any given night. I am happy when they win and discusted when the lose in an ugly fassion like they did against Northwestern. Not because they lost, but because I know they are better than that.
It it is not apathy that has set in with me but the reality of Iowa sports. It is what it is. Thirty-five years. It's gotten to the point where you don't say maybe this will be the year but now where you say maybe this decade will be the decade. I am just going to try to enjoy each game and cheer them on and hope for the best. Go HAWKS and kick Illinois azz!!!! I'll be watching and cheering for you every game just as I did every game Lickliter coached. Hey, who knows maybe this year will be .....
