If you only visit Iowa boards or talk to Iowa fans...

Possibly, but keep in mind any offense looks like "motion" after witnessing the "Butler way". We were just all so happy not to see Iowa dribble the ball down, throw it around for 30 seconds, and then throw it away (or throw up a prayer) that we probably would have fell in love with anyone.

Yah I read all of that after his hiring at Iowa. Definitely butt hurt. The only concerns I have is once Iowa is fully back next year is if the Irish's program starts to drag will they try to poach Fran from us? He and the wifey pooh are alumni I believe.

Hmmm. I mostly see congratulatory comments. Didn't see anything about lack of motion offense. Am I missing something here?

on other sites I didn't see that as their were a few Siena fans Bragging Fran up and congratulating Iowa on the hire I get the impression they new a Big Time program would hire him away from them,
as for ND no way will they get him if he gets Iowa up there, Iowa is in the BT one of the top conferences in the country, so why would he leave.. ND would be a lateral move at best

I have attended or watched every hawkeye basketball games since 1980's during three years when licklighter held the reins at iowa i hardly ever watched the games or never went , that style truly put me in sleep longer than my surgery. My surgery is 3 hrs long!

I remember after the announcement that there were a lot of Sienna fans on Hawkeye Report bemoaning the loss of Coach McCaffery and congratulating Iowa on the hire. Thought it a bit odd at the time, but some of them still post there and have "followed" Fran to Iowa City. I think he was as popular there as he is here.

ND won the Big East regular season last year, are in a basketball dream land, and they're going to the ACC. Yeah, lateral move from Iowa.

They all love McCaffery! That's why when I found this article from when Fran left Siena it was kind of funny to read the comments bagging on Fran. I never noticed this stuff they complain about "like the lack of motion offense". What do you guys think of this? Are they just butthurt?

McCaffery will be named head coach at Iowa (updated) - College Sports - Siena and University at Albany college basketball coverage - timesunion.com - Albany NY

Yes, all those Siena fans hated winning 25+ games, conference titles and NCCA tournament games. A school with as rich of a basketball tradition as Siena expects much more than that.

To be fair, by the time ND would come calling, Iowa would be right there with them on the court. We'd have to be for them to be interested in the first place.

Assuming that to be the case, and the on-court products are on a similar level, in similarly strong conferences: It may be a lateral move in terms of on-court, etc. But maybe it's not in terms of personal value. His wife is an alum, etc.

Say I were coaching at Michigan. If Iowa somehow reached Michigan's level on the court and Iowa came calling, I'd take that in a heartbeat. Lateral move to some, but it wouldn't be in my eyes.

Disagree about ND being a lateral move. They are in much better recruiting territory, and the new ACC is going to be a stout basketball conference.

I'm not saying I believe that. But IF all the objective factors were equal (and they're not), that doesn't automatically make it a lateral move.

Let's dig up some of the comments on here after Fran was hired.

I believe the one person who was not calling for Barta's head was...

Well, that's odd....

It seems like Ghost was the only one who was pro-Fran right away. But how? He's a Fran hater who doesn't understand basketball...

There were plenty of other people who liked the hire, but once again your viewpoint was just based on taking a contrarian stance and says nothing about your basketball knowledge.
