He hits on the head. This was Iowa St's best team (for all intent purposes). This was Campbell's best team. They had a Big 12 champion level like team for them last year (still failed to get it though). They beat Oregon. This was suppose to be their year and their time.........at least in their minds.

Reality is, the Big 12, including the clowns, are not as good as they think they are. Not to say ISU is bad, or Oklahoma. They are good teams. But, try coming to the Big Ten and have the same level of success year in and year out.

Iowa beat their best team in their house. They will be rebuilding next year. Their conference is up in the air. Iowa took their mojo. Iowa owns them.

And Iowa took their place in the National Spotlight. We could very well be seeing a national ranking in the Top 5 or better in the coming weeks. Probably have to go back to 1985 were Iowa has been ranked this high early in the year and should be able to maintain for a number of weeks (or have a damn good shot at it).

I don't think anyone is passing Alabama for the Top spot, but could Iowa get to #2 if they keep getting better. Why not.

These are good times my friends.

To see a championship level defense and special teams feels real good. Offense you are more than welcome to join the party.

ESPN built them up to see them fall, but guess what? Iowa foiled their plans and won now they are stuck with ’em. How is ESPN gonna walk this back? So they have to continue to sing Iowa’s praises through clenched teeth. Love it. If Iowa wins out they have to put them in the playoffs. Way to early for this I know but it’s funny that ESPN built this Iowa hype and will get desperate if Iowa keeps winning.

I wonder what our buddy Colin Cowherd is thinking right about now?

They are going to walk it back by focusing on Oregon and the Pac-12 as they'd like nothing better than to leave a non OSU big 10 team on the outside of the playoffs.

Here is a blurb from their end of day article
"While the Pac-12 celebrates, the Big Ten is reeling. Its three highest-ranked teams in the preseason -- Ohio State, Wisconsin and Indiana -- already have losses. Meanwhile, Iowa made an emphatic statement in winning the Cy-Hawk trophy, clearing the way for the now-inevitable 9-6 win over Michigan in the Big Ten title game."

Their is another blurb about Iowa in there if you want to read but it's just more talking about Iowa being Iowa boring blah blah.

ESPN will do what's in the interest of viewership and TV ratings.

Iowa has a fine defense, however the offense, once again, is lacking. Tracy isn't getting open, and to date has not been a factor in the offense. Call it Tracy MIA.

OLine does not create holes, Goodson is tentative and isn't explosive at all. IKM looks better. I'll say Iowa has a larger investment in TGood and so he's the guy.

Petras has improved and still has opportunity to grow. i.e. throw it away rather than take a sack.

I think the hawks have a shot to beat PSU and Wisconsin. Maryland will challenge with speed and athleticism.. the good news is it will be strength against strength.

Yeah, I don't know if Goodson is dinged up or what, but he's already lost the explosiveness he demonstrated on his first long TD vs Indiana. He usually has a bounce to his step and brings a lot of personal energy, but I noticed last year that after he takes a few hard hits, he slows down dramatically. Same this year, only he didn't have that bounce in his step to even start yesterday's game -- not sure if it's physical, a nagging injury, or what.

More handoffs to Monte!!

Andrew was saying much of the same things many on here are saying. Defense and specials teams usually are more ready in the first part of the season. Our offense has a lot of really good players but timing and reps are needed as well as making the cuts, blocks, passes and catches. at a higher rate

To be honest, the offensive line run blocking has not been very good.
This is exactly what I am thinking. From what I have seen so far this is the biggest concern I have. Petras has made some good throws and is doing just about enough. The offensive line is doing a terrible job of opening any holes.

Well it plays into the ball control and line of scrimmage game which is Iowa's style so much and could completely compliment this stifling defense. They have been fortunate so far to have Taylor help control the LOS, but there are going to be times or games that Iowa is going to have to do better.

If Iowa can just figure that run blocking out a bit more, that should help Petras more and keep the D more off-balance. Those medium routes then may become a bit more open.

I hope this is ISU's best team, ever, but I still have some serious doubts about how good they actually were last year. They got Oklahoma at home, early, playing with a freshman quarterback. As you recall, Oklahoma had already lost earlier to a bad Kansas State team. The other good teams they played (Louisianna, Okie State, and Oklahoma the second time around) all beat them. Oregon was 3-2 with losses to a bad Cal team and an even worse Oregon State team, but by default, ended up in the Pac 12 title game. Their biggest bowl win in history was over a team that would have barely been bowl eligible had it not defaulted into the Pac 12 title game. I suppose Iowa may have had something to do with it, but ISU flunked the "eye ball" test as far as even looking like a potential top ten team this past weekend.
