Yes, it's dumb but it's cause of his arm strength and "measurables." Who cares about accuracy and touch right?

Yeah, don't agree that the "schedule lines up." We have ISU, Mich, NW, Wisc and Neb all on the road and PSU at home. Hell, Purdue at home doesn't seem like a cupcake game anymore with evidence of that the last couple years. Only things worse that could be on our schedule is harder non-conf games, OSU away and PSU away instead of home.

I’m a Iowa fan so I hope this is all true. But from what I’ve seen 2 years in a row it is a mental/psychological thing and not sure it can be fixed. I hope he Big Dicks up and plays up to his potential and gets the F out of his own head. If not I’d rather have the backups see if they have Moxie and “it”

Look on the bright side of things. We just lost to the NFL our best receiver who made some great catches on balls that would have been way over the heads of our typical slow receivers.
So how can one say that’s the bright side? Because instead of staying home and watching ground hog day (7-5 seasons regardless of who is playing at any positions) over and over again for forty plus hours over the season, you can spend that time doing things with your family and/or friends. Go do a service project for a person in need or get involved in a community project.

when you throw 49 TD's in 2 years at a school like Iowa or anywhere really, you are gonna get noticed. I don't think he's ready, but he has everything the NFL wants in a QB when it comes to measurables. This is also a very weak QB draft, so he might be projected fairly high, but I doubt 1st round. To the OP, no, I don't think this would be good for Iowa. Iowa downloads a lot of info into their starters and I would rather roll with Stanley, who's been so close to accomplishing something big, but unable to quite get over the hump, over someone who's never started a college football game.
Iowa never lives and dies by the QB so I think the things you lose with Stanley which is a strong arm and size you would gain in other areas such as mobility and accuracy (assuming Mansell takes over). Hard to tell it that's better or worse but Stanley had some pretty good TD/Int ratios which is always a plus. I doubt he goes although like you said it's a weak QB draft. And in saying that, as I've pointed out in the past, look at his numbers/measurables compared to Josh Allen (competition faced leans pretty heavy to Stanley) and you'll see a pretty close match and we all know where Allen went in the draft. Who knows what will happen but I don't think it's life or death in either scenarios. There are other positions I'd worry about way more.
Totally fair. I think Stanley would be ready to hold a clipboard in the pros for a few yrs. He could do that I'm sure. But I have a tough time thinking that that'd be better for him over playing another year at Iowa. I think that's why he'll be back. If he was a 2nd round pick or higher guy that teams may look at as a possible starter day 1 then as a QB sure you take that leap. I don't think he's in that position so he'll be suiting up as a Hawk next yr I'm pretty sure

He doesn't need a huge senior year or lightning in a bottle, if he left tomorrow he'd likely go in the 1st 3 rounds. That doesn't mean he'll be a success or is even worthy of that, it just means, the NFL puts a lot of stock into the position and this year, there isn't a lot to buy. He's also likely a guy who would WOW people at the combine and pro day. He's never been in the downtown Iowa City before, think NFL GM's might like that type of kid? The reason he's looking is because he's holding a winning unscratched lotto ticket or playing let's make a deal. He can take the NFL now or choose what's behind door # 2 and risk it. I get that he has flaws, we've seen em, but any1 who thinks Stanley is a bad QB doesn't watch football.
While I agree, if he left, I think Iowa will be just fine, but you just can't wish away that kind of experience under center.

If he hadn't been so awful that Penn St. game his draft stock would be higher. He laid an egg that day, with McShay present, and that killed his chances. He can still be an NFL prospect though.

While McShay is an expert, and very knowledgeable I might add, what he says about Stanley is akin to what Lunardi says about teams being in the Dance in January.

That this thread even exists is almost unbelievable to me.
History yes but I dont think much of any of the 2010 last half of the season issues can go to Tricky Ricky Stanzi. He cut his INTs way down and was still doing well passing and getting TDs. 2010 was a few key injuries (right guard, Tarpinian, and A Rob), not enough rotation in certain positions, not making a few plays and just too much conservatism. The team was sort of lost and not trying by the time they played Minny in the last game in the frozen tundra and ice field.
