If ONLY we had columnists and programs like this.....

-------Iowa's sports media are a bunch of little girly men, afraid to call out coaches and programs for fear of losing access, believe me when I tell you that.

I've known that for years....but boy do they get defensive when you tell them that. The canned excuses flow out one after another.

And you can bet that changes of some sort WILL HAPPEN.....because that is what the REAL PROGRAMS do....this only infuriates me more when compared to Ferments. Changes that will come after going 61-6 during his tenure at OSU....this is also what REAL COACHES DO.....they are NEVER satisfied and are always trying to improve....loyalty has no place at real programs when you are not pulling your weight. Did I mention this is on the heels of going 61-6!!!!!!!

BTW, it looks as if this columnists is willing to give his opinion....several Iowa Sports Columnists that I have corresponded with use the cop out that their job is only to report the news and gauge fan temperament ...not add personal opinion. I call BS to that!!!

How old are you Playmaker?

----------Come on, Iowa is not Ohio State.

I thought of the following fun fact last nite after I'd calmed down....do all of the idiots who say we can NEVER be Ohio State or should NEVER be expected to be Ohio State realize that Iowa LED THE BIG 10 in conference wins for the ENTIRE decade of the 80's!!!!!! It's not a fluke when you do it over a DECADE of time!!!!! Iowa fans who believe and buy into this bull shit way of thinking, are just as bad as the AD who keeps extending this joke of a Head Coach.

Not apologizing for Kirk, but during the 1980,s we were 77-43 (at least according to Wikipedia). That's a 7.7 win average..... which is a 7-8 win season average. So far in the 2010's we're 54-37. That's a 7.7 win average. In the 2000's we were 79-43; that's a 7.9 win average. (Notice that it's only 2 games more than our "dominant" 1980's)

Scheduling isn't that much different. Early in Hayden's career we played a lot of highly ranked teams in our non-conference schedule because they thought it would be an automatic win based on our history at that time. Later we faced more cupcakes. Kirk faced the same thing when he started at Iowa. Yes, we schedule one more game per year now, but that's an NCAA change and not just a change here.

Yes, I want more offense. Yes I want our offense to be less predictable. But we are winning at about the same pace as we did 30 years ago.

I've posted several things like this before and it is so ridiculous how "tail between the legs" the Iowa sports media is as well as the marks of success the program measures itself on and the changes (or lack thereof) that take place on an annual basis. We are normally not competitive in recruiting, have absurd recruiting policies, fail to truly develop and utilize the talent we have, offensive schemes that are as predictable as a clock, and the result is basically year in and year out mediocrity. Happy we're not IL or IU or MN among a couple others but we could be much better if there was an attitude brought in that losing is not acceptable. Unfortunately or AD is among the WORST in all of NCAA division 1 sports and it kind of starts there. People always say, oh come on now, we're Iowa and it can never be that way, we're good, sort of, and KF things can be worse, our state doesn't have good recruits, blah blah blah. Basically that's a giant wet pu$$y excuse for accepting mediocrity. If Iowa Football was a publicly traded company, we would have missed earnings targets basically 6 out of the last 7 years yet not fired our CEO. Gimme a effing break.

It is interesting that aOSU isn't satisfied even when they get to the semifinal game, and Iowa is satisfied no matter what happens.
Very good point. I agree. I have watched this mess for decades but I see a divorce coming if things don't change with the coaching staff. Davis is pathetic and Ferentz is a wimp.

Damn, you just made me realize something. KF needs to win one LESS game every year. He needs to get out of that top tier/New Years Day bowl game consideration area. I mean hell if having a winning season and a bowl game win is all that is required then ya might as well end the season with a bowl win that gives you the 8 wins everybody seems to be okay with.

7 wins and a Dollar General Bowl win for 8 vs 8 wins and getting you as kicked in the Outback Bowl?

Knight78 - Do you realize that I was referring only to conference games?

I'm sorry. I missed the part about conference wins. So breaking that down, in the 1980's Hayden was 53-25-4; compare that to Kirk in the 2000's was 49-31. Hayden had two more conference games as in 1983 and 1984 they played 9 conference games instead of 8. So over that decade Hayden was 4 games better, not adjusting for the extra two games. Over 10 years that's an average of .4 wins per year. Not really a lot, is it?

In 1990-1996 Hayden was 34-22; compare that to Kirk in 2010-2016 was 33-24. Kirk had one more conference game last year due to the conference championship game. One more win in 6 years there. Again, not really a lot.

So you can see that we are winning at about the same rate in the conference. So I'll stand by my earlier post. I'll also restate:

Yes, I want more offense. Yes I want our offense to be less predictable. But we are winning at about the same pace as we did 30 years ago.
