If Norm retires, what about Zook?

Interesting idea.

I would think that his recruiting skills could be very useful.

How good of a DC was he at Florida and in the NFL?

what are the conditions of his buyout at illinois? it may not make financial sense to take a job at this point a la chuck long after canned at sdsu.

The reason illannoy had a stout D this season is because of Vic Koenning...and you know it, JD.
Are you really going to troll your own site?!?  :D

Zooker has been average at best since Punch out champ locksley left. The DC area dried up faster than a tomato in the sun.

Just looking at some history at U pf F while he was DC under Spurrier.....the scores would indicate he didn't do all that well holding down the opposition. Indicated that he was "reassigned" to a different responsibility by '94.

As much as I believe our recruiting needs some serious help, I'd take a pass. He'll be a good recruiter for someone though.

If you go the route of a recently fired Big Ten head coach who was a defensive coordinator, I think you would have to look at Luke Fickell.

Zookr's recruiting prowess is one of the biggest myths ever propagated.

Zook actually got demoted by Spurrier from defensive coordinator to special teams coordinator at one point. Spurrier eventually tried to promote him back to DC, but I think Zook ended up going to the NFL instead.

As for Zook's recruiting prowess, I think it's fair to say that he's a solid recruiter. Not the best in the game by any means, but he gets decent talent. There is no way you add him to the staff just for his recruiting ability though.

Hawkryno, sorry but turner gill played QB at nebraska in the big 8 I believe. Doubt if he is much of a defensive guy.

Well no disrespect to norm, but that is more than what we having going for us right now at the coordinator spot... Our scheme is getting picked apart on a regular basis as it is and we don't have the talent for our vanilla base D to work.

I'm not going to argue that Norm's inability to recruit is detrimental to our defense. I'm not smart enough to know to what degree it hurts our recruitment of talent. But it's safe to assume it does have an impact.

In a coordinator capacity, kids would play for him, spent a couple of years as a special teams coach under Cowher with the Steelers. Double up as D-coordinator and special teams coach if KF thinks it could work I would be for it.

Greg Castillo's father Juan looks like he is going to be available after tonite. I'm sure as well received as Greg is that Juan would be welcomed with open arms.

A young, fiery, enthusiastic , black coach who can recruit 4-5 star defensive athletes from the south. Try to find someone on LSU or Alabama's staff that wants to be a cooridinator, keep Norm as an advisor!!!

Too many ego's on one coaching staff is not a good thing.

On another note, we'd have to raise ticket prices to keep Zook in spandex.
