If Marble Keeps Developing the 3 Ball....

...he will be an NBA player after 2 more seasons. It was encouraging to see Devyn knock down 2 straight three's last night. If he can develop that part of his game and force people to get up tight on him from the 3 point line and then use that to take them to the hoop, there are big possibilities for him. I think he is 1st team all big 10 as a senior.

Very excited for the future of Iowa bball, it is going to be nice to be able to look forward to both football and basketball season again, haven't been able to say that for awhile.

It is nice. It is great to be discussing the post season for basketball. Being this close to the bubble is an awesome step for the program.

Devyn also needs to get physically stronger so that the body hits don't affect his play so much. Hopefully he will take his game to a higher level next year, just as he did this year.

His improvement in this area from last year to this has been pretty impressive. I don't doubt his work ethic.

That and he'll be 20. Still pretty young. Awesome to know that he can still be growing and filling out.

I have been frustrated by his jumpshot lately, but he finally knocked down a couple.
I hope he shoots 100,000 jumpers this offseason, and improves. Not all guys can improve by practicing, but hopefully he is one that can. His youth does mean he might have more growth potential than the normal sophmore.

As for the NBA...we will see. It is a damn hard league to make. His quickness is pretty average. His handle is ok,but eroding a bit as the season goes along. His length is good, his wingspan is good. He would have to be a knockdown shooter from 24' to make the NBA. Those guys are incredible shooters. If he can shoot it like Shurna or Dray Green by his senior year...maybe.

The threat from 3 land is one of the things we are missing. Gesell, Clemmons, Ingram and even Meyer from what I hear can hit an open 3. If Marble can improve his 3 ball, we'll have 3 or 4 guys on the floor at anytime that can pull defenders out to feed the post. Future looks promising.

at 194 he defenitely needs some more muscle mass, to get up to about 215 lbs, Gatens is listed at being 212 lbs, with the more muscle mass he will not be pushed around, but it will help his shooting improve, the next two years are going to be fun watching him grow

Improving the three ball would be great, but I would love for him to get that 15-18 footer down....when he does that, he becomes a bigger threat to take players off the dribble.

Agreed. With his length he should be able to get that shot just about anytime he wants it while playing at the 1 or 2.

Curiosity got the best of me, so I had to look at the 2012 NBDL rosters. A few names of note: David Palmer, Justin Johnson, Adam Koch, Paul Coble, Curtis Stinson and (unfortunately) Antoine Walker, yes the former Kentucky Wildcat.

Point being there are some pretty good college names in the NBDL who can't get a shot in the league.

NBA Development League: Players

Fwiw I doubt that's the Justin Johnson you are thinking of. You're point is valid thou.

Is that the David Palmer that Lick hated and matched up so well against Purdue's Johnson?

To be fair he did take shots without letting 30 seconds expire from the shot clock first. It's hard to hold the other team to under 40 points with that kind of undisciplined play.

If I'm not mistaken I believe it is the same Justin Johnson.
