If Kirk retired who would you want?

Obviously no one is saying Kirk will retire…but if he did who is someone you’d want Iowa to go after?

I live in Vegas so watch UNLV games whenever possible. I’d take their HC and OC they have done a great job building the program after coming in with cabinets pretty bare. Doubt he’d stay… but keep Phil and Woods find a new Oline and WR coach.

Don’t think Iowa could poach a big name coach from bigger program, why would they?
Thoughts?

I actually do think Iowa could poach a good P4 coach. It's a very highly regarded position. This isn't my opinion, it's what insiders say as well. It wouldn't surprise me if there is a national search. I would like to see it end up being one of the 2 on staff, but I would be surprised if it's like a Bluder to Jansen situation.

Tim Lester, Head Coach
LaVar Woods to D coordinator when Phil retires at the same time KF resigns
keep Abdul Hodge
keep LaDell Betts

Let Tim decide who else is retained

Tim should hire his own O Coordinator From outside

I don't know if I'm quite ready for it yet, but I've also felt that Tim Lester could become a potential candidate. It just depends on how the next few years go. At this point I think it would be really hard to pick him over Seth Wallace or Lavar Woods.

I know he's not well regarded on here, but I still think Bret Bielema would be a good hire.

The first offer should go to Phil Parker. People claim he doesn't want it, fine, he can turn it down if he wants. People say he is too old. Did you just see what 63-year old first year coach Curt Cignetti just did? Parker would make a great head coach if he wants the job.

I believe KF ties Woody with the next win. Next year for sure he tops Woody. Next year KF last logically thinking?

That is a meaningless record that nobody will pay attention to, and Kirk knows this.

It's not the record for most Big Ten conference games won. Kirk is not even close to #1 for that one.

Nor is it the most overall wins by a head coach that once coached in the Big Ten. That belongs to Joe Paterno.

Also you could debate if you should count all of Tom Osborne's wins while at Nebraska.

Nobody is ever going to say that Kirk was #1 coach in wins in the Big Ten, and actually believe it.

I think a lot of people are thinking… who can they get who’s not going to leave…. We’re conditioned after 40+ years to think that way

Could be a young nobody, I started thinking who has ties to the program… is that necessary?

Does it need to be someone who is on staff now? Is continuity important?

Not sure if any record/HOF are in KF's decision process, but 8-4 will put him over 60%, which is required to get into the HOF.

I have no name, but Kirk was plucked out of NFL after being an assistant coach at Iowa under Fry. I believe Fry recommended Bob Stoops and Kirk around that time as would be head coaches. I do think Iowa will look for someone with a connection to the program as a previous player or coach. They will probably be an age of 45 to 50. I'm sure that many of the Iowa NFL players have a good idea of who would make a good head coach.

Lavar Woods, Seth Wallace are the obvious internal candidates in that 40 to 50 age range. Tim Lester is also in his 40's

Tongue in cheek: If you recall that UNI hired the fired OSU head coach Earle Bruce, maybe hire Ryan Day when he gets the axe for the inexcusable sin of losing 4 in a row to the Team Up North? Day is 66 & 10 overall at OSU (excuse me "THE" OSU), and 46 & 5 vs B1G teams, so like the Bugeaters' Bo Pelini, who was run off for only being 67 & 27 (.713 winning %), many Bucknuts fans are foaming at the mouth that it is time to can him.
More likely possibilities:
He had a tough year this season, but Mark Stoops of Kentucky?
Or Chris Klieman of K State, who won multiple national titles at ND State?

I like Bret, but if he is considered the dude needs a thorough check up by the UI cardio department

Ryan Grubb or Mark Stoops. Grubb is an oc for Seahawks and was same at Washington Huskies. NW Iowa guy.

Dang... Elevating Lester and kicking Wallace to the curb. Bold moves I'd have to say.

I was pie in the sky hoping Grubb woulda considered our OC job prior to Lester but it was extremely unrealistic. His next move will be for an HC job. I'm just not sure though that Goetz would go for a total newbie with no HC experience from outside the program to do it.

I'm not all that high on Stoops. 5 yrs ago maybe. Now... Eh I'd keep looking.

The folks who that is most pertinent to are the big $ donors and Beth G. Short term wise I think it's immensely important if you want to not have an entire overall of the roster and culture change to hire in house. It could be for long term as well.

My pie in the sky 'perfect' scenario would be to have these moves made

HC Woods

DC/LBs Wallace

OC/Qbs Lester

TEs Hodge

RBs Betts

DL Bell

WR Marvin McNutt

OL go shopping (if we really wanna go nuts bring BF back)

SP go shopping

DBs go shopping
