If it is true does this help the Hawkeyes?

can't hurt. someone asked a few days ago who goes down the list if iowa goes up (standings). well, if he leaves, Purdue could be one of those teams. time will tell.

Painter is only 41. He may be looking as his future outside of coaching. Making 2 M a year (plus some outside income) he'll be in great shape to retire, go into TV or do whatever in his mid-40s. Plenty of time to enjoy life and get off the coaching treadmill.

Then again, he's a gym-rat type and may coach til he dies. I'm very surprised he's leaving Purdue, and I'm sure that's not going to go down well with Boiler fans.

rumor has it that he doesnt get along with Purdue's AD, Mo. offered more money for him, staff, recruiting budget, also doesnt have to share the state with Indiana, ND, and Butler

That's a good point - Indiana is a very crowded bball market. Mizzou might not be tons better, though. You're in pretty direct competition down there with Kansas and Illinois from a fanbase/recruiting perspective.

To answer the OPs question - it wouldn't hurt us, but I don't think it helps all that much. If we were one step away from competing for the B10 it would be a big help, but I think in our position right now Purdue is just too far up in the B10 stratosphere for us to really be directly worried about.

Purdue is a well established program - good name recognition. They'd be able to land a competent replacement pretty easily. I can't imagine them dropping much at all - certainly I wouldn't look for Iowa to leap frog them because of this.

I don't think it has much of an impact. Iowa football doesn't really compete with either Purdue or Missouri football for recruits.

I disagree. Rumor has it that Hummel might pass up his last year, leaving them with a starting lineup of Ryne Davis,LewJack,DJ Bryd,Bade,Terone Johnson....or Marcius...not scary at all...Iowa could beat that group.

Who cares? Painter has nothing to do with football. I still haven't figured out how Painter relates to football.

Please tell me how Painter going to Mizzou affects Iowa football. I didn't realize Painter was very important to the Purdue football program.

Leaving ANY school in the B1G for ANY school in the B12 not named Texas was never going to happen. Leaving the most stable conference to go to a conference that may or may not even exist tomorrow? C'mon.
Painter did exactly what he should have done, he leveraged it to get more of what he wanted & what he thinks he needs to win, period.
