If ISU drops from Big !2, how does this...

hurt the University of Iow as some ISU fans are stating on their boards. They say, "Iowa fans will find out." Other than ISU moving to another conference and perhaps dropping some sports because their funding will drop, I don't see how that will hurt UofI?

Some kids will not be given scholarships and that would factor in but how does that affect U of I?

Perhaps ISU's grants may drop? Again, that does not affect Iowa. Iowa may benefit by having even a better walk-on program than it does now. Women who might have gone to ISU, might go to Iowa strengthening Iowa's programs. Students might go to Iowa instead of ISU (for duplicate programs). Heck, maybe even Iowa can pick up academics that ISU has if ISU is starting to drop, thus increasing Iowa's status. If ISU begins to falter, there is no reason that Iowa cannot pick up the pieces and offer those courses is there? Now this is in the event that ISU moves to the MAC or some such. Perhaps Iowa can pick up ISU's engineering department for instance.

So I don't understand what the big deal is. IF ISU begins to lose their status and funding, it isn't like Iowa can't pick up the pieces and become an even better and bigger university.

It may not hurt the UNIVERSITY of Iowa, but it could very well hurt the STATE of Iowa.

Never know until it happens though.

ISU will probably be in a BCS bowl game before Iowa, if we have to play Nebbie, Texas, tOSU, Michigan, Penn St, and Wisconsin; and if ISU just has to beat KU, Mizzou, and Baylor.

It won't hurt Iowa. Don't listen to Iowa State fans that are just upset that Iowa yet again shows its superiority to Iowa State. Well, just don't listen to Iowa State fans ever.

Iowa stacks up well against Nebraska, Texas is good but will take a hit without McCoy, Michigan is awful, we beat Penn State every time we play them, Wisconsin is beatable most of the time. Fail. Iowa State matches up against no one and could lose any game at any time by any amount.

Just another example of Iowa St. fans trying to keep their head above water on this matter. It will not hurt the Iowa Hawkeyes. The state of Iowa, yes, most definitely, but since Iowa's athletic dept. is privately funded, no worries. If anything Iowa will drop the football game, which further more deepens Iowa St's woes. Now, on top of being dropped from a BCS conference, they no longer play a BCS non-conference opponent annually.

I have to think they are considering the possibility of dropping the series with Barta's comments about "they can't guarantee this series" and "each side can opt out with scheduling problems."

Do you honestly think his comment was completely serious? It was in reference to a B12 remaining consisting of only ISU, KSU, KU and Mizzou. Thus they only have to win a 4 team conference to get to a BCS game.

DELUSIONAL!

Exactly, and if anything that helps Iowa because they would then be able to schedule a home game every year instead of a home/away with ISU. That's additional revenue for the team.
