If I’m Hockenson...

I know, but I’m sure as a competitor he wants to prove something. The key to not becoming sash or Seau is to let the concussion completely heal before coming back. I’m sure TJH knows that.
Studies have shown over and over that brain injuries are cumulative. They don’t heal.

If TJ wants to play ball for ten more years more power to him and I hope he thrives. I just don’t think it’s best for him but my opinion doesn’t (and shouldn’t) matter.

The other funny thing about this thread is how the injury happened. I love Hock as much as the next guy, but the injury was his own fault. He was running sideways and tried to hurdle someone. Any time you leave your feet you are leaving yourself exposed to something like this happening. My guess is he might think twice before trying that move going forward.

yeah but its the new thing ya know. in that game alone before this play two other guys did it, one of em the drive before this one. they're all used to getting away with it. he didn't get away with it. unfortunately.

The only reason to play after a big contract is passion for the game. If you don't have the passion, don't take the contract.

If you take a serious concussion. It's time to look at the big picture. Don't be like Junior Seau.

Folks would stop talking about what Luck did if TJ did that at any point between now and the end of the year. That'd be a pretty interesting thing to do. There's no doubt football is terrible for your body and brain. It just is. The more you play the odds you get hurt worse just go up and up. If they don't realize that it's on them to live with themselves. The crappy thing is too many guys doing that will be the end of the NFL as we know it.

Holy shit man, where'd you go?

Just to be clear, he doesn't have to. His full contract is 100% guaranteed.

Not all guaranteed money in the NFL works the way you think it does. It depends upon how they actually do the contract. It isn’t always like baseball and basketball guaranteed money. If all the guaranteed money is in a signing bonus paid immediately then it is completely guaranteed. But if not, then all bets are off. Many times it is spread out over several years. Certain amounts might be guaranteed if you are on the roster on the date the new league year starts, as an example, for each year of the contract.

That being said, if he actually had $20M to invest in the financial markets, and if he doubled his investment every nine years (very doable) he would have $80M after 18 years. But he probably has more like $9M to invest. That assumes (all up font) $12M after taxes and agent fees, and then living off another $3M, while the remaining $9M is invested. If that $9M doubled every nine years, he would have $72M after 27 years. But he doesn’t have it all up front, not really.

That isn’t bad, as long as you can enjoy it. Don’t get me wrong, Fryowa, I get where you are coming from.

Sorry, but all first round draft pick money is 100% guaranteed, for all four years as of the 2011 CBA. Every dime.

A career-ending injury would result in 100% payout. That’s why everyone brings up Jake Butt because it’s an example of how significant it is to get drafted early. If you got drafted in the first round and blew your knee out in camp, and never played a down of NFL football, you get the entire amount. There’s no grey area to that.

Early 2nd round picks are guaranteed for two years, and later 2nd round picks are guaranteed the 1st year.
