If he is paying his own way in year one...

how about the 98% of students that pay for 4 years of college....their parents must be lawyers, doctors, engineers and sh!t.

Just a guess, but If I'm Uthoff parents, I'm telling him we can pay for one year of college and he can pick up the other 5. That is getting off easy compared to just helping chip in for paying for 5 years instead......

I don't know what they do, or their finances, but if they put away even $1000 a year for their kids college, like many parents do, I'm sure the money isn't that big of a deal.

boy you guys are jerks. unless they are rabid hawk fans, i'd be telling my kid "get a free education!" why pay when you absolutely don't have to?

If Jared wants to go to Iowa as much as it apperas, one year of in-state tuition is not a huge deal for most people.

I work in the higher education field and there is a serious misconception out there about paying for the cost of school. Most people can get a loan(s) to cover the full cost of attending school (the "smart" people go after grants and loans, too). In other words, you don't have to come from money.

Paying for one year of in-state tuition and getting the rest paid for is a sweet deal, even if one has to take out loans for all of the cost of that one year.

If money were the only factor on where kids go to get an education, then everyone would go to a in state, state university. Going out of state cost more, going to a small non state university or college cost more. I mean seriously if Iowa is where you want to be, and all you have to pay for is one year out of a 5 year educations (with Wisky paying for the 1st year) then why the h*ll would you go to any other school? I mean he tried another location, and didn't like it, so he understands that being happy where you are at is the #1 thing, so if that costs a years tuition, then so be it.

last i checked you can get financial help lots of ways. i think he is a pretty good student. maybe an academic scholarship. or loans work. other ways too.

Why not go to a college that you want to go to and if you have to pay for 1 year to do it then so be it. He is getting off a lot cheaper than I did with college.

in the kcrg interview it looks like he lives in a fairly normal suburban iowa neighborhood.

Trust me, the ones that have the most money are the ones that live below their means. A lot of people that live in the fancy houses in the nice districts are usually living above their means.

Back in the day I used to sell door to door for a water treatment company. The places I targeted were the "normal suburban neighborhoods". We stayed away from the million dollar houses as we rarely could finance them.
