I truly hope that KF learns from his DJK experience

DJK could have been a Heisman Trophy winner at Iowa.

I hope the next time we have a player with his skill set come into Iowa, KF puts as much time and energy into how to put the ball in his hands as often as possible as he does how to turn him into the person he thinks he should be.

Great hands, breakaway speed, incredible desire and from everything I have heard a great person.

I whole heartedly agree with what Jon said, sometimes you have to let stars be stars, and you also have to let kids be kids.

I love the guy as much as anyone but he is not Heisman material. He makes plays but he's not that caliber of talent.

WR's just don't win the Heisman either.

That's the point Coiboi - the guy spent half his career in the doghouse and stilll holds the two biggest receiving records at a Big 10 school.

I think there is more going on behind the scenes then we know. There has to be a reason why DJK has spent so much time in the dog house. Can't be he's just a outspoken guy, or weird guy.

I don't know, but when DJK was pushed out of bounds and into a table, no one from the team went to his aide. Why is that? If DJK was such a likable guy, and KF was being unfair, I would have thought more people would have come to his defense.

Or maybe that play really meant nothing and the team just truly didn't care who was getting pushed around.

I don't know if we'll ever hear the true story, but I still side with KF (probably the only thing i side with him on).

1. It's COLBOL.

2. DJK is good but not Heisman good in any system and/or with more touches.

I love the guy and I'm a huge supporter, but I'm a realist.

Kirk screwed up the Stanzi/Jake thing and he screwed up the DJK situation. Good coaches make mistakes. Kirk crapped the bed on this one.

Justin Blackmon isn't getting real Heisman hype and he is 10x better than DJK. I think you are overstating his skill set quite a bit.

wide receivers just don't win it. DJK has good speed but I wouldn't classify him as a blazer either.

Again, I love the guy, but I'm being realistic here.

Well, I hope DJK learns from his Kirk Ferentz experience. Whatever was happening behind the scenes that resulted in DJK having to come off the bench at points during his career were rules that nearly all of the other Hawkeye players could follow.

And maybe some of those were the types of routines and practices that molded guys like Dallas Clark, Bob Sanders, Nate Kaeding, Pat Angerer, Shonn Greene, etc., into the type of players they are today.

Also, maybe they were the type of practices and routines that made DJK into the all-time leading receiver at Iowa.

Without any of us knowing what happened behind the scenes, it is hard for me to give the benefit of the doubt to the kid over the man who has been named Big Ten Coach of the Year three times and is of unquestioned character and ethics.

Please elaborate on your knowledge of the situation.

First time back in a couple days and I pick this thread, of all threads, to open.

Now I know why I gave myself a leave of absence.

Brutal.

Because it was clearly evident that DJK was the most talented player at least on offense and he was underutilized at best.

His talents far exceed his judgement. By not complying with the company line, he consistantly puts himself in a position of being in the "dog house". If you're not supposed to have girls in your room during 2 a days, then don't have 3 of them in there. If you're supposed to wear hawkeye gear, don't show up in a "wife beater" and combat boots. Are they minor infractions yes, but are they breaking team rules, yes! Sooooo, if you're constantly pushing the envelope, you will pay the consequences.

What do you mean? You think he was used the absolute best way possible?

No, I would've like to have seen him used in the wildcat or maybe as a QB option (like Solomon v. Minnesota in 2005), since he played that position in high school. I also know that with this coaching staff that something like that isn't likely to happen.

I wouldn't go so far to say that the career yardage record holder and career receptions holder wasn't utilized properly.

The records don't mean he was properly utilized. Barry Sanders had ridiculous numbers in the NFL. He retired at 30 with plenty of gas still in the tank. He may be 3rd all-time in rushing yards, but he could have done much more. DJK could have been used more effectively than he has been.

Granted, I haven't looked at the numbers, but I'm guessing that in the end, DJK's numbers don't look that special when compared to a lot of other school's receiver's records.

Iowa just doesn't have a history of good wide receivers.
