Uthoff was offered by Illinois,Indiana,Wis,Minny,ASU and Iowa,among others coming out of high school. White was offered by no Big Ten schools. Uthoff was top 150, White was not. So clearly, coming out of high school, Uthoff was considered the better prospect. Now, White made a huge leap late in his senior season and his first year at Iowa. No way of knowing how much Uthoff has improved. But, lets be honest, Bo Ryan is a fabulous developer of talent. His guys always improve. Bergrenn is a case in point...he sat out a year,but last year when he finally got his chance after the other two big men graduated, Bergrenn had a break out year. Same with Rob Evans. Ryan is great at improving these big men who sit out a year.
Based on that, I think we can assume that Uthoff has improved since leaving high school,and will continue that development,because his basic skillset for a big man is solid.
I am not saying he will end up being a better player than White,but he could come close. He was highly coveted by all these Big Ten schools for a reason. Ryan was super-****** about him leaving Wis. for a reason. He is talented.
The irony is that Iowa only offered Aaron White after Uthoff chose Wis. over Iowa.
I was happy about that last year. Now, maybe the best of all worlds...we get them both.
