I Think the Hawks Are In

Just a gut feeling. And yes I am talking about the NCAA Tourney.

Blast away and continue to whine like little girls.

I hope you're right, but I think it's all over. Low RPI = NIT time. Giving up a 22-2 run or whatever it was during the last 10 minutes of the game sealed this team's fate.

I will still tune in for the selection show tomorrow, though, just in case.

A deep run in the NIT will benefit this team next season more than one and done in the NCAA. That being said, I hope you are right for Eric May whose effort deserves a NCAA tourney game. I think we are outside looking in. NIT it is.

I think if we were a team that had been in last year, this year's record would have us in (which is why I suspect Kentucky will still get in).

Stranger things have happened, though. There have been times that I was convinced Iowa was out, but they got the nod.

But, ill readily admit that I don't know anything.

We're so in. Who can argue with an RPI of 73?

I think we have a very outside shot, if the selection committee looks at how we finished the season on the whole. I just don't understand the RPI at all. Early season losses to top teams seem to save your *** late, but our close loss to a top 10 team late didn't help ours at all. It's a broken system if you ask me. Hopefully they take the BPI into account.

Sad thing is, without the epic meltdown in Lincoln, we would probably be last 4 in or so for sure.

As much as I'd like to agree with you, I just have to ask who did we really beat down the stretch (other than Minny, who surprisingly most everyone has as a "lock")? Close only counts in horseshoes ... and gubmint work.

In my mind we are a much better basketball team than some of the teams that are about to be invited but system has gotten very goofy and give us no shot. Iowa getting in would leave me as shocked as I have been in a long, long time. We had to beat MSU to have even a remote chance for one of the play-in games.

There is really no way the committee wants to invite 8 teams from the B1G and we have no respect in terms of our recent tourney history(none). By this I mean if MSU or OSU was sitting in our exact position right now they would get in. Kind of like Kentucky getting in - that is a garbage basketball team this year but they have won big in past years so they garner a little more respect to get a nod.

The disappointing aspect to me is to watch Minnesota and know they are a 'lock'. How could anyone who has watched them play the last 15 games think this is a quality tournament team?

It leaves you scratching your head that some teams can upset or beat a team or two in the non-conference and just mail it the rest of the way. Then other teams benefit by playing in a weaker conference in terms of depth. Why even play a conference season?

I would agree if all the low tourneys had had their #1 team win. But enough of them didn't that it will take a great push by someone or multiple someone's in the committee for us to get in.

Hope they do but it seems the odds are stacked against us.

Their SOS in out of conference will keep them out. They really needed to win last night.

Even that terrible Nebraska loss on the road might be the dagger.

RPI/NCAA Trivia

I supposed it's possible to root for Wisconsin to win the conference tourney, etc, to somehow get that "73" to a sixty something. But reality will also sink in this weekend as well - gonna be the NIT unless we get a gift. I will take this over the 3rd Licklighter season any day.

No it won't. They need to start winning games on the big stage. Nobody cares about the NIT, there is no pressure.

Not sure what leagues you are talking about. A lot of the upsets happened in 1 bid leagues.

MTSU and La Tech are the only ones that might make ther leagues 2 bid leagues. We shall see.

We beat Illinois handily, but outside of that, I can't argue with you. More than anything else, it just doesn't "feel" right to leave us out...to me, we can play with any team in the country on any given night. Problem is, playing "with" a team doesn't cut it...you gotta get a W from time to time in those close ones.

Hope for Wisky to pull out the tourney win to juice our RPI into the 60's, and pray. Outside of that, maybe we make a run in the NIT and at least feel good about next year coming.

We don't stand a snowball's chance in hell at making it. I hope you're right though...I'll come back for my crow if I'm wrong.

Agreed 100 percent.

I think the Hawks will get a #3 seed in the NIT and win a couple games.
