I think Iowa makes the CBI

totally agree we need more games to become better so we can get to the dance sooner rather than later. plus i think gatens deserves a solid postseason chance.

Why does gatens "deserve" that?

And saying he "deserves" the cbi kinda tells ya the caliber of player he is now doesn't it?

he has worked hard and is finally getting results this year with a solid (although young) team. watch the kid play and tell me he doesnt deserve to play in the postseason. i didnt say he deserves the cbi. and he is a solid caliber of player he just isnt the #1 scoring threat caliber (like he was asked to be his first 3 yrs). now he can play his game and he is flourishing. certain players will themselves and teammates even when the deck is stacked against them and that is what it was for 3 yrs with matt. now he has a chance to play in the postseason so i do believe he deserves the chance whether it be the dance, nit, or cbi.

also it will allow the young players more games to develop and with what we want out of them then they need all the games they can get so in a year or 2 we are playing in the ncaa tourney.

WTF are some of you talking about?

The CBI has included the following major college teams:

2011: Oregon, Creighton
2010: Oregon State
2009: Oregon State, Stanford, St John's
2008: Virginia, Washington

Who the hell are we to turn down a shot at playing in a post-season tournament? We haven't been to a post-season tournament in a very long time. The team is young and the players continue to develop.

There is nothing wrong with trying to play a few more games in a tournament atmosphere.

iirc Iowa was going to play in the CBI in one of the past few years but we had a scheduling conflict with either a woman's hoops game or renovations.

I'm all for making the NIT or the NCAA but should we fall short I would be 100% on-board with playing in the CBI.

The issue wouldn't be the caliber of tournament. It's the paying to play in it that may be.

The fees to play in the CBI cannot be all that much considering all the schools that have played in it over the years. Besides if Iowa got a home game the gate would make up for whatever fees they charge. I think a number of people would come out to watch Iowa play in its first post season in years.

I would like a postseason for Gatens who has been very good and completely committed to the Hawkeye program even with Alford leaving (recruited by Alford), the Todd Lickliter debacle and rebuilding with Fran.

Watch the game Saturday, or any of the games this season? Didn't think so.

The tournament champion in every league gets the auotmatic bid. The regular season champion gets an automatic bid to the NIT if they don't win their conference tournament and make the NCAA as an at large.

The Ivy League still gives its bid to the league champ.

Also, does anyone know if the Big Ten even allows its teams to play in anything below the NIT? I am pretty sure they don't allow it.

Really, so what automatic bid does their conference tournament champion get?

This was already discussed about 3 post after I posted that and the Ivy League doesn't have a conference tournament to give their automatic bid to therefore it goes to the regular season champion.

So again, if you don't win your conference tournament (because the purpose of these tournaments is to get automatic bids to the NCAA) but are the regular season champ and don't get selected as an at large for the NCAA you get an automatic bid to the NIT.

i would like to know why you think this. more publicity by playing in more games equals more revenue. sounds like a bad business plan to say they cant play in a tourney if they are invited.
