I think I understand the January depth chart

You're right, Tate was QB at Iowa from 2003-2006, and not 2005-2008 as I'd reported in a previous. Tate's last year, 2006, when Iowa ended it's season at Minnesota with a loss, a mediocre record, and no bowl game (as I remember), was a season KF allowed Tate to 'sling' Iowa's offense around. KF 'allowed' Tate to sling Iowa's offense for most of Tate's tenure at Iowa. (1)The 2003-2006 Iowa season was one instance of KF reinventing himself because KF desires a conservative offense. (2)Around 2002 when KF allowed Brad Banks to QB Iowa to the Rose Bowl, was another instance KF reinvented himself from his preferred conservative offense. (3) If CJ starts for Iowa in 2015, it will be another reinvention of KF's conservative offense.

All these, IMO, reinventions of KF deal with offensive changes. All for different reasons. Around 2002 to get his program at Iowa off the ground? In 2003-2006 to keep Tate, at Iowa?
Now with CJ? To keep CJ at Iowa. Probably to keep GD. Maybe to entice some athletic recruits to come to Iowa and catch CJ's passes (could be more of a GD desire)? Maybe to keep some WRs at Iowa (could be more of a GD desire)? Keeping CJ at Iowa for the 2015 season will satisfy many more corollary reasons for football success than when Tate was kept at Iowa.

Why do I think Iowa's record with Tate as QB in 2006 had/has an effect on KF's dealings with CJ? CJ is gonna sling the ball around. KF likes conservative offense. KF didn't like the result of Tate's slinging of the ball in 2006 (at least 2006).

Most of the time when posters refer to KF's reinventions they're actually referring to KF's reloadings. The team gets better. Usually it's because the defense 'executes better'.

KF has never reinvented himself by changing the 'norm' of his preferred defense. If he announces changes to his defense on Wednesday, there's definitely a scoop for you.

Lol, that cracked me up. I want some of whatever you are having. I guess not only is KF reinventing himself, but you seem to be reinventing history too. There must be some alternate reality where Brad Banks went to the Rose Bowl in the 2002 season and Iowa did not go to the 2006 Alamo bowl, along with many other quirks in your memory. But your history at least is entertaining.
