I think Basabe kills it next season

After reading various articles and some of his twitter posts, I think Mel comes back with a vengeance in a fight to restore his playing time and takes on a leadership role both on and off the court. I look forward to it!

So can he talk the talk and walk the walk? We shall soon find out, because he was an Enormous disappointment this season.

I think Gesell on the team next year will boost Basabe's play. That being said we heard the same type of stuff last year. We heard that Basabe was going to prove to people that he was better than a mid-major recruit. He also said that he was going to prove the US-U19 team that they were wrong in sending him home early.

AH CRAP! :(

If basabe dedicates himself to the weight room and a mid range jumper this offseason the skies the limit. I think he will earn more minutes then woodbury will next season.

I just hope for about 12 and 8 out of him. I think our team will be very balanced next year.

Gesell feeding the ball much like a healthy Cartwright his freshmen season and another player with size like Woodbury, Olaseni or Meyer will help. i think the graduation of Cole really hurt Basabe both on and off the court

I would not be too surprised not to see much of change in the numbers for Basabe. That may not mean he didn't bust his butt or he's not significantly improved. There will be more viable options at the 5 and if Roy Dev moves to the three the four could get clogged up a bit too. We've got a bunch of interchangable parts, or tweeners, or what ever you want to call them, but other than Woody being a 5 most everyone else can play a couple of spots.

My bet is defense at each spot and match ups will determine who sees the floor. We've got a bunch of guys who can score the ball if not a single pure scorer. With Mike hopefully showing true point guard skills I'm hoping for a variety of guys stepping up in different games and overall defensive improvement.

One thing for certain, it will be fun to watch.

He's just so raw offensively. His footwork is awkward and his ball-skills are average. If he can develop a mid-range jumper that is great for floor spacing. Then just keep refining his footwork, his decent turning over his left shoulder on the right block, but needs to expand.

It's possible, but I'm skeptical he's really going to refine his offensive game. Adding a jumper, which I think is possible, would be a great step however. Playing with better players, will also help, allowing Basabe to be great garbage man (a role he can excel at).

There are so many different players that can make a difference both ways and Basabe is one of them. If he is able to produce like he did as a Frosh or even better, we are better than an above average team. If he can do what he can do, it will give us soooooo many options and make us so much better.

We'll see.

Basabe had a down year because he was forced to play out of position for the majority of the year.

He'll be back strong next year. Bank on it.

He doesn't need to add weight. That was one of the problems this past year. He put on too much weight and wasn't used to playing with it. If he can stay at around 220 or maybe 225 and play comfortably that will be fine for him. Getting to play only the 4 this next year will help him as he was playing out of position for much of the year. He just needs to dedicate himself to playing positive and keeping up his motivation and energy level. Even if his game is off on the offensive side, he can be a shot blocker and good rebounder. But working on those fine points of his low post/mid range game will definitely be beneficial.
