I hope Lick is back next year

Um Baylor comes to mind. Didn't they make the tournament 2 years after having a player kill another player? That was a sad state of a program, and Scott Drew took them to the NCAA 2 years after that happened. So tell me coaching at Iowa is a hard job, its only hard if you lack to recruit BIG TEN caliber players, and don't change your system. Sorry the Mid-majors offense can't compete with the big ten!

I personally want lick to come back, ONLY if he changes his style and gets more aggressive on both the offensive and defensive ends! Next years bench will be deeper, he better start pressing and start having an up-tempo offense.

IF he keeps things the same and doesn't change anything, then see ya mr lickliter. His style of ball works in the Horizon League, but not the BIG TEN.

I'm with you on keeping Lick for one more year, but Baylor has something that Iowa doesn't. It has the hole flippen state of Texas to choose from. Granted, Lick hasn't gotten any true ties to basketball in the state of Iowa, but has done a good job getting kids from Iowa and surrounding states. But if your looking purely from a stand point of talent to choose from, Baylor has a huge up on Iowa because of the difference in the talent level in the state. I will say that I am with you though in the style change and that will be better with the new recruits. Its painful to watch the Big Ten team run up and down, and then us just walk it up the court, every time, so hopefully with the new recruits that will help.

Are you serious?! So the state only just all of a sudden produced good basketball players? So all the years prior, when Baylor sucked @$$, there was no good players in the state? I think Baylor has won a TOTAL of 3 NCAA Tournament games in it's history. Iowa has won more than that on several occassions, IN ONE TOURNAMENT.

I'm sorry, but Baylor isn't good because the state of Texas has good players. They are good because Scott Drew is one helluva coach and Iowa would do good to seriously gauge his interest level.

I am in the same camp......I think Lickliter knows the game, and I saw improvement in this team until the freshman hit the wall 2/3's the way into the season. We played LOTS of freshman, and it is VERY difficult to win in this league relying on freshman.

It all comes down to recruiting, Scott Drew gets the average players out of Texas and coaches them up. That job he did after the murder, was amazing! How he got those kids to play together (i think they had only 5 scholarship players return that year and the rest was walk-ons.) He did a great job of getting them to understand the game.

IF LICK goes out and recruits some serious athletes and changes his system to an up-tempo style then I think he can be successful at Iowa.

If we keeps recruiting these In-between players and plays the slow-down tempo, we are not gonna be good.

Sorry, licks window is closed. A new coach has to either make it happen in his first three years or have a tremendous capacity to sell that concept to the fan base and recruits to keep him viable for a 4th straight losing season...lick has done neither.

Not happening. Not gonna happen. Early momentum for the next guy will be easier..with scholly players on the roster,a new facility opening in 15 months to sell new recruits...if we get the right guy, Iowa bb is ready to explode.

I've always been of the opinion that you must give a new coach (regardless of sport or level) a minimum three seasons to turn a program around. If there is any success in those three years you keep the coach on for a fourth and reevaluate after that. I've been a huge Lick guy and defended him with my buddies because of my "new coach" feelings. And up until the end of January I would have agreed with you. However, the team never got better. If there had been some improvement, some spark to say the Lick is the guy I'd still be on that train. Right now opinion is "They can't do worse". I truly feel that now is the time for a change.
