I have a Niang feeling our chances......

After the Cezar experience, I have learned to reserve all excitement until a recruit signs on the dotted line. Niang says a lot of great things, but actions speak louder than words in the world of recruiting.

I have to admit that was dissapointing when Cezar chose not to come to Iowa. Iowa was actually late to the table on the recruiting of Cezar but we are the first major team to recruit Niang. Niang is going out and stating that he is a loyalist to those who have showed support for him when others weren't. He really is putting his itegrity out there. My take is that is it really down to us or ISU. The part in the article that caught my eye the most is the fact that he mentions both Hoiberg and Fran but then doubles back to talk about his close association with Francis.......to me that huge!

Yes you can't can't count your chickens until their hatched but what else specifically related to Hawkeye basketball are posters going to talk about on here........peeing into a bottle.....lol.

It would be a great get for either school, but I would bet he ends up else where. Taking unofficial visits might end up to 50 the big boys will come calling.

How does anyone here have any idea the amount he said about either school to each reporter? Reporters don't include every single quote from an interview.

That could be a function of editing as much as anything else.

The part that caught my eye is that he spoke as much about ISU to a U of I reporter.

The amount Iowa State showed up in that article was because Harty seemed to be consciously trying to include both. It's hard to know how much Niang actually spoke about either school because that depends on what the reporter decides to ask about and what they decide to put in the story.

That said, it'd be cool if ends up at either Iowa school. I for one am hoping both Iowa and Iowa State become the top two basketball teams in the state again.

It also could be that Pat was writing this for Hawk Central, which both the Press-Citizen and the Register use as a niche online site for Hawkeye coverage. That story may have been intended as much for a central Iowa audience as it was eastern Iowa.

I will also advise to reading much into a prospect's post-visit interview no matter what he says.

Sounds like a nice kid and a good get, if that happens. That said, I also wonder if Pat had smoke coming out of his ears and other upper openings after having so much blown up another one.

Just sayin ...

I read the article and did not come away feeling any better about our chances than before I read the article. I think Iowa is in the mix but I don't think our chances are that much better than anyone else. You just never know what these kids are thinking. Depending on who is interviewing them, they will always say the "politically" correct thing: Enjoyed my visit. Loved the campus ... etc. etc. Until they sign the dotted line you just never know.
