I fear our 2010 home schedule

Well, don't forget Little Blue. That game was way closer than it should have been.

One thing people are forgetting is the home crowds last year were horrible. I haven't felt Kinnick like that since 2000. The stands can have a lot to do with creating an apathetic environment.

Caveat: I didn't go to any home games in 2006 and 2007. I am sure it was bad then.

I think alot of it is nerves. When we go on the road to PSU, OSU, etc. nobody gives us any credit and play to prove something.

One thing is for sure, the margin of error maybe even more slimmer this year with the "better teams" at our place. Weaker teams like Indiana just fell apart when we decided to start playing in the fourth quarter. I don't see the same type of caving in from most of the teams we play at home this year. And, the way we won some of our games at home ( like 2 blocked field goals in a row) are a rarity. I predict if we get down a couple of scores at home, our defense is going to have to force some turnovers or score some points (ala Clayborn against Penn St) to help our struggling offense.

When we go on the road, we certainly have to be on our game for Arizona, Michigan, and even pesky Northwestern. Iowa could easily get shell-shocked at Arizona (or even Michigan) if they don't come in with the right mindset.

However, with the "better teams" coming to Kinnick, the place should be rocking and it should a nasty environment for opposing teams to play in.

Iowa will almost have to be playing at a high competition level mindset for every game this year. If they don't get up and work hard for the teams they have at home they will be in big trouble and the road games are trap games.

I am convinced that the new turf took a bit of our home edge away. Now,opponents can expect perfect surface, same as their practice fields back home...hopefully we will get better this year on it ourselves.

How many opponents were on the home schedule last year that were worth getting excited about? Michigan, and.....?

I read a lot last year that Kirk put a lot of focus on the big away games last year. Looks like that paid off. He will know where to put the focus this year as well.

For all our sakes Kirk better put an emphasis on ALL games this year or we won't be BCSing anywhere.

A letdown loss to Indiana would not surprise me if that "better" team mindset gets engrained.
