I don't think Fran is like Kirk in that he expects lackluster results

I think Fran believes Iowa should be in the top echelon in the B1G. Am I wrong?

Whether Fran can get us there is a different question. But I think he believes Iowa can at least be as good as Wisky in BBall (and FBall - tho FBall isn't his responsibility)

I think Fran believes he will get Iowa to the top echelon of the conference. I think he will too. I think both Fran and Ferentz want to win, but Ferentz seems like a guy that is trying to present an acceptable product, while Fran seems like a guy that is always striving for more. It seems that Fran has finally had time to recruit guys that will be better fits into what he is trying to build at Iowa. Fran loves to run and pressure the other team. Hopefully, he will find a quality guy this spring to replace White next year. All of his recruits coming in seem to have really high level potential in basketball.

I think Uthoff, Uhl and the incoming recruits can collectively replace White. I want someone to replace Olaseni. We need someone to play 15 minutes and spell Woodbury...more if foul trouble or injury.

I just laugh at any person who actually think these guys don't want to win. What a joke, they have 1,000,000 times more investment in the program any any stupid fan ever will. Just because they don't throw fits like we do online (well Fran does, but only occasionally) doesn't mean you care more.

Both men care. Both are serious, show emotions in different ways. Both want to win every game.

Ferentz is stubborn in his ways, resistant to any change, loyal to assistants, and will likely continue to have a mediocre football team for the next 3 years at least. Bowl appearances may not be guaranteed every season he is there, but the qualifying bar (6 wins) is very low and many medicore teams get into crap bowls and get their mini-winter vacation.

McCaffery is more flexible, but he sticks to his philosophy for subbing, player usage, defensive schemes, and so on. I like his recruits coming in next year. I think the Iowa hoops team will be in a post-season tourney in each year of McCaffery's remaining years at Iowa.

I have much more faith in the mens hoops coach and his program than I do in Ferentz and his program.

Is Ferentz accepting mediocre, or is he just trying to explain it away? Like others have said, I'm sure he wants to win and tries, but if the results aren't there, it's easy to make excuses for your failures.

Myself, I just question whether he has the fire he had 15 years ago. It doesn't mean he's stopped caring, but if you lose the edge you once had, the results are bound to slip when the competition is as fierce as it is.

I'm also not sure he realizes that what worked 10+ years ago doesn't seem to be working today.

What about the assistant coaches? Are they getting it done?

All the above are questions that I have.

It just feels to me that McCaffrey is closer to having a really good team than Ferentz.....it seems now like we have miles to go in football....
