I don't get it

The worst QB in the league from last year is one of the best this year. Despite a whole new system and staff. All the uproar form the Sandusky scandal and JOPA passing. Yet there he is leading the league.

Vandy has been given every excuse in the book for his abysmal play this year. Time to move on and put someone else in that has a future at Iowa.

In a sense that's like being the smartest dumb kid... Being the best passing QB in the B1G is not much of an accomplishment this year. Someone's gotta be first, but not a major accomplishment.

While I understand where all the Vandy haters are coming from, we all know he hasn't even been average. However, Iowa is 2-0 in the B1G. Do all you haters want to give that up just to prep someone for next year? Haters say it couldn't possibly be worse. It could be worse, Vandy has only thrown 3 int's. That's good enough for 4th in the B1G for teams only 1 behind the leaders. I'll admit it could be better, but it also could be worse, why risk it if Iowa is undefeated in B1G play?

He's only thrown 2 TD's, he's not getting the ball to anybody is the problem. He has a completion percentage that rivals Mark Sanchez and Tim Tebow (take your pick). It's hard to get a ratio worse than 1 to 1 (TD to INT), yet he's done it. If a backup came in and threw 6 TD's to 6 INT's it would at least mean Iowa is scoring. If the backup is worse, there is NO harm done, reinsert JVB to keep throwing fastballs behind his receivers. The goal of the QB is to move the ball down the field, not to avoid losing.

How do you decide when the backup is playing worse? He should have at least a full game to get used to game speed. So how many games does he get? You're acting like it's all about TDs and interceptions. If the kid doesn't know when to throw the ball away to avoid a sack or can't hang onto it when he does get sacked, you're in a worse situation.

Wisconsin has had a lot of success over the last two decades with guys who just manage the game.

Last year, JVB had excellent stats and everyone bitched that he couldn't win on the road.

This year, his stats stink and he has a road win and a neutral site win.

Can't please everyone.

Wow. We are 2-0. We are leading the division. We just beat the team favored to go to the Rose Bowl at the beginning of the year, on the road at their homecoming.

If the Iowa coaches had a better option, they would play him. They don't. Vandenberg is your QB. Give it a rest. Ferentz knows what he is doing.

I'm not complaining, I agree he is the best we've got, so I'm gonna cheer him until I hear the final gun!

C'mon, man.

Everyone knows Kurt puts inferior players on the field, despite obviously superior options off the bench, because he prefers to lose.

Unfortunately I think he is the best on the roster... and that is cause for me to complain. If he were a Redshirt Freshman playing like this I wouldn't be as vocal. I said this in another thread...the only thing giving me any hope for the future is that KF is so risk adverse that it is possible one of the other guys will play much better next fall and we just wouldn't know it. Just think about this, if Coker hadn't left nobody else would be getting carries at this point and we would be watching hime average 4.5 yards per carry again this year.

Well...when he WAS a redshirt freshman, people lauded his effort at OSU, and some folks thought we should pull Stanzi in the latter part of the following season.

This sort of reminds me of 2003. We had WR issues, Jermelle Lewis missed the first half of the season, and people started to clamor for Drew Tate. Nathan Chandler's numbers were, admittedly, pretty pedestrian, but his losses were ALL on the road, ALL to bowl teams, and he, like JVB, rarely turned the ball over.

When Chandler got hurt and had to come out for a play or two at OSU, Tate wasn't even PREPARED to go in. He was on the bench, without his helmet, yukking it up with other freshmen/scrubs.

And of course, people SCREAMED for Jake Christensen the latter half of 2006.

For McGloin he's probably alot more confident knowing that he's got folks around protecting his butt from being blown up by a speedy lineman coming around the corner and drilling him from behind. Knowing that you are safe and that your team is there to watch out and keep you protected is a special feeling. Plus, being able to make decisions during play and not laser focusing on receivers helps too.

I'm sure glad you guys started this thread. A day without a new Vandenberg bashing thread is like a day without sunshine.
