I can't see anyway next year is any better

Defense will be even less experienced and we are losing one of the best WRs in school history. Really hope I am wrong but things could get ugly in the first month.

While Im sure this topic isn't unique my real point is that unlike in years past I don't see many underclassmen who I feel will be able to turn things around. The D-Line is a wasteland of "ok" players and we are again going to have to rebuild the running back platoon.

We have even bigger question marks for next year then we had for this one, but the conference looks a little weaker as well. We may not be any better then this year, but I think we are not really any worse for the wear either, but on the way back up.

Should see 6-8 wins again, but wouldn't be surprised if they won 9, and that would be exciting if we have some younger guys that really shine.

In the past we have had young Dlineman step up and start for 3 years. Hopefully we find those guys next year. Alvis was showing promise untill his knee injury. We'll have one of the top returning QBs.

I think MG and AW will make a big difference, and fail to see how the DL losses should affect the bb program. Plus in the first month the month we usually schedule cupcakes, so I don't see it getting to ugly.

there will be bigger bodies competing for spots on the DL competition will be stong as there are not 6 SR's to be given a starting spot based on length in the system
Iexpect Davis and Cooper along with incoming guys like Johnson and Ekakitie putting pressure for playing time
plus there will be a new DL coach and hopefully a new outside DC on staff to mix things up on D

On defense, the back seven will be much better. The way Prater played, I don't think there will be a drop off at all with Lowry. Replacing Bernstine may be a challenge, but Law certainly looks the part. The DL is a bit of a mystery at this point...but you have potential for some upside surprise. It's really now or never for Carl Davis. If he emerges, that would be huge. One juco signing would have been a positive step, but I haven't heard anything. Cooper, Bigach, and one of the incoming freshman are going to have to step up big.

On offense, certainly losing Reiff and Zus hurts, but their is a ton of talent and players that are competing for those jobs...the offensive line will be good. I think the offense can surprise to the upside. One of the young receivers has to emerge and they need to stop dropping the ball. Soup needs to get these guys catching the ball in games. To lead the big ten in drops is ridiculous...and by a wide margin I believe.

This team COULD surprise.

why is it now or never for Davis, he was just a RS freshman playing behind seniors
geez give the kids a chance to many on here are quick to throw freshmans under the bus around here, be it FB or BB
the DL will be youg but they are bigger and some of them are better thought of than most of those in the past coming by recruiting services
we are not looking at 265 lb DL
we now have 285 - 300 lb DL

Will have alot of growing up to do on the D line next season, but I feel with better overall athletes. I don't think it will get any worse I'm just not too sure on it getting any better?

I know Coach Doyle can work miracles in the weight room and this is one I hope he pull off this off season.

Bingo! Nailed it! I could not agree more!

because we dont see next year being better is why it will be. we will have some dl come out of nowhere and make huge strides during the offseason. we will see jvb make strides. and really i dont think there are a lot of questions other than wr and dl what will happen. ol is deep and talented though inexperienced. rb has coker and we saw canzeri take some punishment and factor in garmon. te we have cjf becoming very good and hamilton should be solid. wr davis and kmm need to be more consistent and i believe bullock becomes #3. dl has some with experience but dont discount kf going young he has done it before like with roth and others and these guys are bigger than he was. lb should be solid if we can keep linemen off of them with the dl. hyde and miller are proven and we have seen a lot from law and lowery to have good ideas about what they will do.

also remember that when little is expected of us we tend to do well.

the problem that i see with davis is that he is the least quick dl i have seen in the kf era. i understand he is bigger and maybe was dinged but his size should count for something then and he was continually pushed backwards and single blocked as a dt which is unacceptable. and to not be quick and able to disengage at dt for iowa is a double whammy because of all the twists and stunts and games our dts need to be able to play.

I dont think Wr is going to be a big problem. KMM and Davis are very good. KMM should get more chances to shine. He was pretty quiet after the Pitt game.

Just like every year defense will be what decides how the Hawks do.

I think next year will be better. I just can't see us losing to a bad ISU team at home unless ISU starts Jantz just for that game, and he does his Michael Vick impersonation again. I also don't see us losing to Minnesota at home. We've had to go to their place 2 years in a row, but they won't beat us in Kinnick. I think we will win 8 regular season games, and win our bowl game to get to 9-4.

The schedule does set up well. Just am not comfortable with the situation on both lines. Spring should help clear up some questions there, but just not sure there are going to be the necessary bodies on the DL.

The 2012 season will be ineresting for sure. Obviously the succes of the team will ride on how well the young DL gels. They are yound and I can see them struggling early in the season but improvements coming around mid season. However, the offense might bring a bit to the table and at least keep the Hawks in games. The 2012 season should be kinda similar to what we saw in 2001. 2013 will be the year the Hawks are back ..... as long as the world doesn't end on 12/21/2012, of course.

With Davis being a freshmen last year i didn't expect him to dominate as he was going up against experienced upper classmen on the opposing line, where upper classmen know more about the tricks to beat freshmen and i am not surprised because of who coached him in coach kaz, we will see a marked improvement in Davis next fall
as for Keenon Davis he did have 50 receptions for 713 yards for a 14.3 avg
compared to McNutt as a jr with 53 rec 861 yards at a 16.1 avg
it seems everybody remembers the drops, but everybody forgets the catches
maybe one of the incoming fr steps up to be the 3rd receiver or maybe someone like Hillyer a rs fr steps up to be that 3rd receiver
i trust Soup to get the job done and KD will be the #1 target and go for over 1000 yrad receiving as McNutt went from 53 catches his jr year to 82 his senior year
this is what soup is for to teach and improve WR play
