Hypothetical: DJK

Not that it matters much but I am just gaging what people think. If this had been DJK's junior year and not senior, based upon the facts we have now, does DJK get to play the senior season, or is he ultimately get kicked off of the team?

I personally think he misses the bowl but after some sort of rehab, his criminal punishment, and possibly some early season game suspensions, he would come back if his attitude is right. What does anybody else think?

Considering Benny Sapp was gone, I think DJK would be as well.

IMO, he would be off the team for good, especially considering the off the field issues that have happened in the past and the talk they generated. I think the program would get skewered if they kept somebody on the team after this.

I think it could go wither way. Yes, it's several misdemeanors but unlike certain crimes like assaults, rapes, and OWI's he was hurting nobody but himself. Addiction is a beast, and people general think others deserve second chances. I think this would be a scenario where if he served his court mandated punishment and went through some sort of rehab program Kirk would be willing to give the guy a chance to redeem himself.

Then again I see the other side where this draws bad attention to the team, coach, and school and thus, ties should be cut immediately.

Let me ask this. In the above scenario, if coach decided that DJK was to remain suspended until further review would you accept his decision if he let DJK back on the field if DJK proved he was clean and rehabbed?

If he completed rehab and theres a noticable difference in attitude, then yes. Even if he does do that though, I would understand if Kirk didn't let back on to the team.

I see where you are coming from. PP's criminal issue was a lot worse but I think it's DJK's position in the spotlight that ultimately would doom his chances at redemption.

Depends how you look at it. If you kill someone while driving under the influence it would be much worse, but DJK's crime potentially carries a stricter sentence than an OWI if I understand it correctly. He could spend up to seven and a half years in prison. Probably won't happen. I'd assume he'll end up with probation.

Yeah but you could say the same when comparing alcohol and weed. Alcohol can probably be linked to more crime, but society has chosen to accept it and not weed. Society has chosen to accept that it's more likely for your average Joe to get a DUI driving back from the local bar than it is for someone to get busted keeping a drug house and abusing hard drugs.

The severity of penalties are sometimes driven from public perception and not necessarily how much damage it does to others. Most people think it's much more tacky and wrongheaded for a college student to get caught doing what DJK did than it is to be caught for a DUI. I would bet that 90% of the people who drink on this board could have been busted for a DUI at some point in their life. I doubt the same applies to drug abuse.
