Hummel out...

The purdue websites are reporting that Hummel tore his ACL last nite vs Minny....ouch. I feel the boilers pain,as I was around when Ronnie hurt his knee and all the subsequent Hawkeye season killing injuries...I like watching this purdue team play, and was counting on them to make the Elite 8 with that #1 seed in hand...at least.

Well, so much for him going to the NBA next year...altho,his injury might push JuJuan johnson and Moore to consider it...or get insurance.

That sucks-i was looking forward to see how they would do in the tourney

It does suck, Purdue is a team I generally have no qualms about rooting for (at least this PU team), and I've always thought Hummel was their MVP.

I would thik this seals his return for next season, although some players go through an injury like that and decide there's no way they're going to risk everything again next season.

I totally agree, it does suck. Purdue is a team in the big ten that I like to root for. Painter has done a good job since he took over as head coach. Hummel has had very bad luck with injuries and is a kid that seems to give his all, I feel for him. I might have to reconsider taking them to the sweet 16 or elite 8

I would say this would be, for Purdue fans, akin to Ronnie Lester's injury for Iowa fans back in 1980

I think without Hummel they will probably end up as a 3 seed and my guess is they will lose in the 2nd round. Watching them against Minny last night they just really struggle to find points when he isnt playing

At least for Purdue they have a few games before the tournament to adjust to playing without Hummel. This is better than Cincinnati losing Kenyon Martin in their conference tournament when they were No. 1 several years ago. Painter's a good coach, I wouldn't write them off as a second round upset just yet.

Big loss. Totally changed their offense last night vs Minny. If it wasn't for 2 big shots by Keaton Grant, they lose that game. JJ will have to try to carry more of the load but he will get a lot more attention. The guards will have to step up their scoring as well. It will be an interesting game on Sunday vs. Michigan State.

Yeah? Spank are you cheering about the injury?

Or just a reply to the post prior?

Yeah means "yes".

Yea means "hooray"

I was just pointing out that we had a thread on this already. Might have just been better to merge it and let that be that.

Sorry for any confusions.

Interesting i had the exact same thought when i heard it. I feel bad for the Boiler Nation on this one...
The real interesting thing is that Jon wrote that in February after Hummel's 1st injury. I really feel bad for Hummel. Can you imagine how much work he did to be ready for the season and he re-injures the knee in his 1st real practice? I hope he is able to come back from this at some point.

According to ESPN at halftime of the Minnesota-Purdue game, Hummel blew out the same knee as last year during the second drill of the season.

I feel awful for the kid.
