Hubbard still waiting for chance to play

Too bad, I think he would really have helped us this year...

What is interesting is him saying he wanted to play closer to home. Somehow that had to be in his mind before he ever signed with Iowa, thus why did he sign with Iowa? Perhaps something happened that 'caused' him to want to play closer to home, something that happened while he was here. I guess we will never know other than rumors.

This one still baffles me. He could have really helped this team and it is odd a 27 year old gets home sick.

Especially one that should know how to deal with being home sick since he found himself in a situation where there was nothing he was going to be able to do about it until his release date.

Hubbard leaving (if it was entirely his decision) was about the dumbest thing he could have done. He could have played meaningful minutes in one of the best BB conferences in the country and there was an entire fan base ready to embrace him and forgive his prior bad decsions. Not sure what this kid wants, but he seems to overlook his opportunities. Time's running out for him.

This part is the only thing I can see that would make him want to be closer to home, depending on how close he was with his grandma.

The death of Hubbard’s grandmother affected him. Hubbard was at Iowa when she died. He returned home for the funeral before going back to school.

“There was a whole bunch of nonsense,â€Â￾ said close friend Corey Byrd. “He wanted to be closer to family, especially with his grandmother’s death.â€Â￾

“We talked every other day and he started mentioning things that even on the court environment,"

Okay, he was playing on a PTL team with a bunch of UNI guys and no scholarship Hawkeye teammates.

I, too, thought Hubbard could have been a real contributor this year, and I'm glad Fran was willing to take the risk, even if it didn't work out. I wish him the best. But after reading the story I wonder whether he'll even make it back to Morgan State next year to play.

Well, if it's any consolation, the other guy we were looking at was Matt Glover who we backed away from and later signed with Penn State. While elligible and a good defender, Glover is a poor shooter and I believe averages 2.5 ppg.

Wow, what a fiasco that Hubbard deal was. The press conference with the hats, the standing room only PTL crowds to see him and poof, gone amidst a flurry of rumors.

This does shed some light on the reason that Hubbard is not eligible this season. It is a straight forward routine transfer from one school to another after he took classes.

I wonder if he realized that leaving Iowa would mean sitting yet another year?
If all is as he states, it does remain completely baffling how he could just wake up one day and conclude that this place is not for him. The ''on court environment'' comment is confusing. I guess that might mean a personality conflict with teammates as he is playing pickup? Or a clash with a teammate who is playing against him in PTL?

Fran planned on him filling a key role on the team, and we definitely could have used him. I think we might have won at least a couple more games, like Purdue/Nebraska/PSU games, with him to help out in the paint and on the perimeter.

Just one of those mysteries that will never really be solved, I guess. I do hope the kid is taking advantage of his extra year to actually get his degree, and become a contributing member of society...if that happens,..happy ending.

His departure allowed more playing time for younger guys to develop. Probably would have helped this year, long term this is probably for better.

Why look at Nebraska if he wanted to play closer to home? This is one of those funny stories we will never have the full details on everything about it. I hope the best for him.

I seem to remember an interview with him just days before he left stating how much he liked it in Iowa and how comfortable everyone had made him feel. If he has any aspirations to play professional ball at any level, he would have gotten so much more exposure in the Big Ten than he will gt at Morgan St. Obviously a very mixed up man.

He will never play pro ball. This kid has made poor decisons his whole life and continues to base them on emotions and not logic. I hope he is smart and gets his degree and trys to start a life in the real world.

Fran had no choice but to ask Hubbard to leave. Him saying it was his choice was simply to safe face

Where'd you get that info? He did nothing of the sort.
