Howe: Opportunity Awaits Brian Ferentz, Nate Stanley at Outback Bowl

Rob do you ponder the alternative explanations? Please provide your thoughts as to why he is the punter at a Big school. Not being coy. Serious question.

Because he has a relative on the regents board.

I thought we established that.

It was a serious question. He's not Big caliber. You called someone on their opinion, which of course you may be right about, but it still doesn't make sense that out of 100 or so players around the program that someone is not better. So sense it isn't about the relative, then what is it? Is it a pre-Stanzi/Beathard/Banks thing? None of us get to see things as up close as you do. As a side note, I have been around a Big board of regents that did just those type of things on employment, so it wouldn't seem preposterous to me. So, help me understand. You are also talking to someone who just a few weeks ago was standing outside his child's hospital room waiting for surgery and tricky infusions where that child was so excited to have an absolutely fantastic view of the stadium, when I noted Kirk and Mary Ferentz as donor's on the plate next to the door. Those rooms as done are very nicely, more so than the other number of Children's Hospitals we've been in in major markets. I'm quite thankful to experience that room during a stress filled time. I'm not on a witch hunt. Help me/us to understand that's all.

Our pass protection has been very good all year. We rank 6th in the country in sack% allowed.

That being said MSU is the best pass rush we’ve faced all year and NS has issues with presence in the pocket.

screens and draws. screens and draws. then deep.

I think it's as simple as Iowa doesn't have a better option. And, yes, that's a recruiting fail.

The coaches offered a scholarship to Gersonde and he hasn't been able to beat out Rastetter. They failed on their previous punter offer (Connor Kornbrath) as well. They missed on their last kicker scholarship offer (Mick Ellis). He couldn't beat out Recinos or Duncan and left.

I'm not at practice. I don't know what these guys look like.

I do believe that the coaches play the players that give them the best chance to win. Are they always right in who they choose? No. But I don't think it's some devious conspiracy.

Only chance here is Stanley has to play lights out, we need to take the ball away when on D.....
AND pray alot for a rain delay. I suspect we'll see near 200 total O likely encompassed in 1 drive after the game has been decided and this will yet be another example of how far the program is in arrears to other programs. It will also answer significant questions why we aren't in contention to even win the Big Ten West let alone a conference title.

If we can score 20 pts, we win. I don't see our defense giving up 3 tds or more to the MSU offense.
Unless we don't move the ball and get 1st downs if we don't it will be close for a half followed by a blowout in the 2nd half.

That's a comforting thought, but what if Stanley throws a pick-six or a fumble is recovered and run in for a TD. That's not on the defense, but the points count just the same.

Yes. The Iowa coaches are going play a kid because his relative is on the board of regents even if it hurts the team and the other 100+ players on it.

Do you actually think before you post on here?

<<Do you actually think before you post on here?>>

Where is the fun in that?

I am not sure why, but I think Iowa will be able to move the ball against Mississippi State a bit.

Sorta feel the same ... Top notch D’s against crappy O’s say ugly slugfest but bowl season and a month to prep say game in the 30s.

Don’t know who wins but 1 of these bad offenses is gonna go.

Just hope ol BriFer and Stan are en fuego to kick off 2019. Otherwise, real 2019 is gonna just suck being Hockless and deFanted.

"a bit" is exactly what's going to happen....and "a bit" won't be enough to compete. That's the problem. This has all the earmarks of another Stanford Rose Bowl or a Tennessee bowl blowout.

Ooooh, don't say Stanford Rose Bowl...when reality toppled the House of Cards.
