Howe: Iowa Must Scratch Where It Itches

Is it Brian or Kirk's itch?

The formula right now is don't make mistakes on offense and let the D and ST do their thing, same as it's been the last two years and throughout a lot of the KF era.

I think Brian has been scratching and itching to up the middle and to the short side of the field a long time in The itch-scratch cycle.

Come on man.
Everyone knows that run up the middle....totally sets up the one to the short side.
Perfect for getting to a 3rd and not-so-short passing situation.

It all sets up our best and go-to offensive play that damn near guarantees 50 yards.
Off the foot of Taylor.

You know how as a fan you start fantasizing about plays in certain scenarios? Your team is back up against its goal line, and you think, "How great would it be to hit them over the top for a 97 yard TD pass?" Or, "I hope we pop through the line for a long TD run."

Iowa has so warped my sensibilities as a fan that when we get the ball around our own goal line, I think, "I would love to see a 3-and-out, followed by a 90 yard Taylor punt over their returner's head!" I think Kinnick would react to a play like that with the same excitement as the Cooper TD return.

Sure would be nice to make something out of our offensive players so they can have success, do what they've done in HS, what they hoped to do at Iowa and not have it end like this. I hope the give up is not there and we can still improve beyond anyone here's expectations. I do like Deacon in over McNamara, and I think for this year he has a much higher ceiling based on several things, but mostly health and mobility. When you work behind the Iowa O-line, you need to be one mobile, one tough son of a gun.
