Howe: Forecasting the '19 Big Ten Football Race

Until Nebraska proves they actually have a defense, they don't deserve to be in any pick to win the West. Go back and watch tape of our game with them. We were pushing their Dline 5-7 yards off the LOS. Sargent had one carry all game where he lost yardage. You don't win the West with a good offense and a shitty defense....ain't happening.

Not only the physical difference, but they were very undisciplined. It will be interesting to see if that changes this year.

Why? If they get to late November 8-3, they've obviously has a pretty good year and the game is at their place.

For now, they are in a schematic disadvantage against Iowa. Their 3-4 lacks a space eating nose guard and even the opinion of the BTN bus tour was the outside linebackers are weak. I find basing the Cornhuskers ongoing success because of end of season home wins against Minnesota, Bethune-Cookman, Illinois, and the 6 healthy players left on Michigan St. very dubious.

Picking the records for each member of the conference:

Suppose Nebraska has an average defense with awesome offense and simply boat races everyone else in the division by hanging 50 ppg. I think that Green/Gold team out west did that with a lot of success. You're down 21 zip in the first quarter and the game plan changes and the players are stunned and demoralized. Hey Kirk, you can learn something here. Sore more points that the other team rather than hold them to less than you score.

Minnesota has 3 RB’s that are better than our best. We would gladly swap our WR’s for theirs right now.

Both of their lines are big.

Like Iowa, Minnesota will go as their QB goes, IMHO. I think they will be better than anyone wants to admit.

I'm pretty sure we kicked the shit out of them last year, at their place. How did they all of a sudden get so much better than us?

I didn’t say they got so much better than us. I am saying that they were a lot better last year after they replaced their defensive coordinator and they get 2 RB back who were hurt last year.

They scored on us last year. So their offense is not and was not their problem.

Are they good enough to beat us? We will see. I hope we still have better athletes at most positions, but I was stating that their WR’s and RB’s are better.

It is a home game for us, so I have been counting that as a win, but the goophers scare me more so than Nebraska.

Their defense turned more physical and opportunistic (turnovers) after they shit canned their defensive coordinator.

The team we played in early October was completely different than the one they fielded by the end of the season.

I still like our chances, but not sure about 48-31 again.

I'm looking for the season where Iowa makes a material step forward. They seem to be the same caliber team (with minor variations) every year since 2013.

Kirk's first 10 years was 3 up, 3 down etc. Now its very flat and consistent.

Will see how long Smith and Brooks last...those guys seems like have been there for 6 years each cause they both get owies and ask for redshirts.....not sure who your 3rd superstar is?

I do see MN has a 400 lb lineman. That what you are seeing??

Anyone putting money on MN being first rate is just nuts. They haven't been any good at all, really, for 40+ years.
If they make me eat crow this year so be it...but Im going with the under.

Ibrahim broke out after those 2 got hurt. I think he was only a freshman. 1160 yards last year averaging 5.7 yards per carry. Brooks and Smith are proven, but they did get hurt.

Either they are all upper level NFL caliber RB’s or ... somebody’s doing a good job blocking for them.

I really hope they suck. I want to keep beating them on the field and in recruiting. I am just saying that they have some really quality players up there and Coughlin and Cashman are pretty good defensive players as well.

There is no way this Nebraska team I’m watching is winning the west. Martinez is getting killed and its 169th ranked South Alabama. Total yards about even. They may improve but not a good showing.

Three takeaways for me ...

1) Looks to me like they improve ... to 5-7.

2) I did not know they hired Greg Davis as their new OC.

3) Red kool-aid causes severe delusion.
