How ****** will you be if we get a Plus One?

The format for determining the football national champion will never be perfect. If there were a 16 team playoff, some one is sure to b1tch that they were more deserving than team 16.

I am fine with the plus one idea. After week 12 we have a good idea of who the best 8 teams are. Matching the four major football conference champions in two major bowls will produce two excellent candidates for the plus one game. If two other major bowls can produce a better candidate than either of four major conferences, so be it.

To me winning the division and then the conference championship game would be great. Winning the Rose Bowl game would be the topper. Even with that you might not qualify for the plus one game. There are just too many variants to expect to be part of the plus one game.

Actually, it would be fairly easy to get to a 16 team playoff type format and keep the current system (or the one that is developing)

Have the major conferences have 2 rounds of playoffs.

In a 16 team conference that would be 4 divisional champs. If a conference doesn't want to go to 16 teams, fine. They just would only have 2 teams eligible to get past the conference championship into inter-conference post-season play.

This would also favor the 16 team major conferences, because it would jack up the conference champion's SOS by playing 2 highly ranked teams at the end of conference play and then a major conference champion.

For instance, what if Iowa beat, UM, OSU, and USC at the end of the year after beating Nebby and Wisky in divisional play? You think there would be any chance they wouldn't play in the plus one game?

So you are fine with the #3 team in the country possibly getting shut out of a chance to play for the National title?

Remember the Plus One would only look for the top 2 teams after the bowl games are complete. This is in no way a playoff. The bowl games would be filled by traditional tie ins. The #1 team could play the #10 team and the #2 team could play the #7 team and the #3 team could play someone else. If all 3 win, the #3 team would be left out. That's ridiculous and is no better than the current set up. Granted there could be some years it would work out, but I really think most fans would not like this once they realize how it will work.

Under the 4 team playoff system - a hypothetical: if an SEC team is at 1, and another SEC team is at 3. A PAC12 team is at 2, and a little12 team is at 4. The B1G team is at a close 5 - in a strong B1G conference that year. Not cool.

In the plus 1 hypothetical - the SEC would potentially only get 1 team in - not "2". There would be more importance on winning the conference to get to that bowl game, to get to the national title game. None of this 2 SEC teams in the title match junk anymore. I like how the plus 1 keeps the one conf against another aspect for the nt game. Not saying this is perfect, but definitely intriguing.

I hope for that. It's how it should be.

I hope the playoff sytem will succeed.

In fact let's just skip the BS of a 4 team and go right to 8 or 16. If the 4 team is created it will only be a matter of time before it is expanded.

Playoffs are coming so let's just sit back and enjoy it....

Dwayne you are a backwards thinker, so I'm not surprised you think this way. Hell you probably wish they crowned the National champ before the bowls like they used to. But for those actually looking forward to a play-off, the Plus One would fall woefully short of delivering.

For people who actually like college football, a plus-one is the best we can hope for.

I want a 8, 16 or even 32 team playoff myself (I don't really care about the champion being the best team, no other american sport cares about this and that's the way I like my sports being an american sports viewer).

I think a tournament style playoff would be fun as hell and you purists can suck it.

Oh man, you are on to us... Yeah none of us like college football.

You are so far off base it's not even funny. But whatever, it is your opinion.

I think most people are not understanding what a Plus One model would mean. This IS NOT a playoff. This would be the status quo process we have right now, but then when we are done they put the top 2 in a bowl. This would be only very marginally better than what we currently have.

I'm not worried about the plus one because I don't think that is what will happen. If I were to put money on it right now my guess is that the solution that wins out will be the 4 team playoff with 3 of them being conference champions (as long as they finish in the top 6), and the 4th team would be a wild card (which must be the highest remaining ranked team even if they are not a conference champ). There is a lot of support for this model amongst the conference commissioners. It's a great compromise for those that want conference champs only and those that want just the top 4 regardless of whether they won their conference.

Well the Plus One talk isn't being received so favorably by the media people I follow on Twitter. But I'm not too worried because a Plus One would be worth so much less money than a 4 team playoff that there is almost no way they will go with it.
