How will Iowa defend against the 7 footers on indiana and illinois?

Archie playes his best against those that 6'10 or 6'11, he did alright against Johnson last year against Purdue and this year against Sampson, who knows Olaseni might finally get his act together and provide 4-5 minutes each half.

Had to throw out you love for Gabe there, huh Herby?

Archie can defend in spots, not a long term solution, but can contribute in games and matchups like Illinois and Indiana.

How does Iowa defend these teams? Go zone and collapse the middle, the biggest key is not how Iowa defends them, it is how Iowa will rebound against those teams.
In the second half, Iowa let a small Purdue team beat them up on the boards, that just cannot happen.

Iowa can't really defend those two teams when it comes down to it, but turnovers and rebounding are something that Iowa has some control over, it is about not falling apart as a team when it starts getting physical.

Stormin' Sampson and Berggren are not good at all, I have liked how Iowa matches up against teams not named MSU, OSU, Indiana and Illinois, these teams can just keep throwing size at Iowa that Iowa doesn't have.

Zone is not normally thought of as the best defense against a 3 point shooting team.

A 3-2 zone is a strategy that is used against good shooting teams. There are holes in the corner though.

Man to man defense can also create good drive and kick opportunities when you don't have good rotations (we often don't.)

Bcl, I think you are thinking of a 3-2 (really a 1-2-2) zone, not a 2-3. I still don't like a zone against a good 3 point shooting team.

yeah,I'll edit that.

I kind of like it though. Some teams will get lazy and try to shoot over it (The Wisconsin game they seemed to do that). If they make a couple quickly though I would also get out of it fast.

Actually, I would ideally love to have 5 guys who can stick like glue to their man but the talent levels differ so much in college basketball that it's not always possible.
