how we look going into nebby

the hawks have been a tale of two teams. but it seems like the biggest weakness for the team is at least making enough plays that it doesnt fall all on the offense.

jvb - the kid keeps developing. he stood in and took some shots to deliver passes this past week. which is good cause he will have to against neb. i believe that he is the 3rd best qb in the league. if persa didnt have the injury problems id have jvb at 4 but i like pure passers and wilson and cousins are a little more seasoned. i think he is starting to understand how to beat the blitz a lot better.

coker - the kid is a stud. dont get me wrong i think him and mccall would be like greene and hampton but this kid is a workhorse. if he stays 4 yrs id say shaw will be #2 in yds.

mcnutt - best wr ever at u of i. love watching him play. the drops are frustrating but remember he has only been playing the position for 3 yrs think what he could be in a few years.

cjf - beast. they are splitting him out and he is blocking solid. clark was a great receiver but he wasnt much of a blocker. this kid could be clark with blocking ability.

ol - this group is starting to play like i thought they could. i think they just needed to find a leader after julian left. reiff is who we thought would be that guy but i think the fire lil ferentz has is what is going.

defense - these guys have struggled all year but they seem to be making plays in big moments now. they are who we think they are. sub par for iowa standards but they are starting to make big plays so i can deal with the yardage and points if they come through in big moments. got to say this seems to be happening since binns started to really play well the rest of the defense has too.

thoughts on mccall - he sat because he fumbled. he will play this week. if he hadnt got hurt in game 1 coker would have sat longer because that is how this staff does it. when mccall went down coker back in. expect to see him like the 4th series.

random thoughts - davis and kmm need to show up and cj has to be big at nebby. i hope mcnutt has another big day but he will have an nfler on him all day so davis needs a big day. im calling 100 yds for davis, 75 for cj and 50 for kmm, if mcnutt can pull in 50 that is a solid day for jvb. add in 100+ for coker running and that should equal a hawk win. i think mccall gets a td in this one. last thing im starting to want to see mossbrucker cause meyer is causing me to really dislike kickers. he might have better numbers than kaeding but nate he is not.

The KEY is JVB. That is all. Not sure what game your watching but if Nebraska is smart they will blitz JVB all day long. He struggles anytime a blitz is coming.

Coker- You mention Shaw being #2 in rushing if Coker stays. My take is unless he is the man of steel, I just don't see him being able to hold up.

There d is good against pro style offense... see MSU

We are pretty good against 1 dementional QB.

Should be interesting.

Our offensive scheme is similar to both PSU and MSU, but Nebby had a few things helping them when they played each team:

1) MSU just came off of a 3 game grind and looked flat/tired after beating Ohio State, Michigan and then Wisky.
2) Nebby played a Penn State who did not show any emotion until it was far too late in the game.
3) Also, Michigan is trying to run more of a pro-style offense and actually did quite a bit much of last week with Touissant leading them in rushing. Michigan hit them in the mouth routinely while on offense and kept the Nebby D on the field for 41 minutes. We need to mix in a lil' up tempo if we can get up, but overall I feel if we can execute and the o-line can get Coker to the hole untouched, our line and Coker will be able to pound them for 4+ yards a carry. This will then wear on them physically and mentally.
