How upset do "Minor" legal offenses by players make you?

If the arrest is for a simple misdemeanor (illegal use of an alcoholic beverage) I really don't see the need to broadcast it. Frankly, if it would have happened in the small town where I grew up the town marshal would have driven you home to sleep it off. The Iowa City police could find a beter way to spend their time.

Obviously, the goal is to have a squeaky clean program (or at least not be Ohio St or Notre Dame). But how upset does a public intox or a similar offense make you?

As a get further from my college years I look back and can't really get upset with a teenager getting a public intox or caught with fake id. They're kids and its college. I'm not saying they shouldn't be punished because it's still wrong, but some of the ridicule seems like it comes from people who never went to college or walked into a bar, for that matter.

DISCLAIMER: I am only referring to minor violations; not DUI's, Assaults, etc. And I am not condoning continued "minor" offenses from a single player.

Go get him, tie him up, bind & gag him, run him out of town, and put up barbed wire around Iowa City with armed sentries, and never let that player back into city limits.

Ok, just kidding. My real answer? Not so much. Minor stuff? Meh. Who cares. It's college life. I don't feel that Iowa is "better" than any other college, either in-state or out or that Iowa should hold its student-athletes to higher standards than any other university. Our players don't have to be 100% choir boys, just as long as they aren't major problem children.

Major offenses, yeah, that's a problem. Repeated "minor" offenses, yeah, that's a problem depending on how repeated and how minor we're talking about.

I don't care about the Peter Jok stuff, really. I don't think it makes him a bad person and it sure won't make me any less of a Hawk fan if he's on our team despite that. Has he shown bad judgment? Of course. Let's hope that improves. But I don't think Fran should kick him off the team based on what he's done, if that's what you're asking. Dole out the appropriate X number of game punishment, run the stairs at Carver every morning for an hour, or whatever sends a message, and move on. If the mistakes continue, maybe take a harder stance.

But driving a moped without a flag or whatever exactly happened.... LOL. That's kids stuff. If he gets busted in an armed robbery, or pulls a Pierre Pierce, or some other serious crime, that's a far different conversation.

I'm glad to see a general consensus on the board. If I went by what the DMRegister writes, I'd believe there was a lynch mob of fans to get any player with a minor offense out of town.

Drunk in public? 70,000 of us will probably commit the same crime in 2 weeks in Iowa City. Slap on the wrist and move along.

I agree with the serious offenses, but otherwise, I feel the same as I did when I was their age.....

LOL... I agree with you guys though, little things like this are all just part of "growing up". I'm more upset about my clones OWI charges as those are not so "little" (yeah, yeah, I know there are a lot of those leaving football games too though)

Actually, the charge called 'interference with official acts' bothers me more than somebody being drunk enough to get arrested.

Some of you went overboard tooting your horns about not forgiving the players for committing minor crimes. I am formally filing an complaint to Jon Miller for letting this thread make me totally deaf with all those toots! Nah I'm forgiving you guys . Lets go Hawks and Cyclones ( I gotta support Iowa State temorarily while my child is getting educated there)

HAHAHA :D

I almost forget , Jon thanks for letting these guys make me laugh.

Don't care at all. There is plenty of real problems in the world to worry about.

I don't subscribe to the idea that kids, just because they are good at sports, are something to look up to or should be held to higher standards then other kids.

Real crimes committed by players ala PP, Everson, Douglas ect should not be tolerated but the sort of things that Jok and Ogelsby did don't matter at all.
