How to Know Iowa is Still Alive Tomorrow

During the selection show they reveal the brackets in pods of 8, 2 pods for each region. Since no conference team can meet a team from the same conference until Sweet 16 unless there are 9 teams from said conference in, here is an easy way to know if Iowa still has a shot.

There needs to be 1 B1G team in every pod until they reveal the Hawks name. If there isn't a B1G team in a pod, only 7 B1G teams got a berth and it's NIT here we come.

In my eyes, Minnesota deserves it more than us.

Hard to argue with this. RPI and SOS are really hurting us right now, along with a lack of a lot of top 50 wins. How is our non-conference schedule looking for next season? I hope it's quite a bit harder. If we had played a tougher non-conference schedule this season I think we'd be a lock right now.

If everyone stays healthy I see us as a safe pick to finish in the top 4 next season...probably a safe pick even if someone gets hurt with the depth and experience we'll have. Right now I have Michigan State 1st with us 2nd if Burke, Oladipo, Thomas and Zeller all leave early.

Cool story bruh. It has nothing to do with this thread.

Iowa ahead of Ohio State next year? You might want take a break from the crack smoking.

No Deshaun Thomas, THE #1 cog in that team. Aaron Craft, pffft, strikes fear in no one.
At any rate thanks for the info OP.
And yes, Minnesota can go straight to hades. Rubbish, trash team. Back your way into the tournament why don't you?

So Stanzi what would you rather have

a) 20 win season
b) .500 season

Fran has explained the nonconference schedule numerous times. It makes sense. These guys need to learn to win. If the nonconference would have been more difficult, it is easy to say our record would be worse. It is a game of ifs, but after watching conference play, the team still didn't learn how to close out tight games.

Can't have it both ways with a young team. Remember all contributors will return next year except May.

Maybe I'm mistaken, but I think your math is off. If teams from the same conference can only meet in the Sweet 16 or later, then there can be two teams from the Big Ten in a pod. They just have to be on different sides of the pod.

My bad. The rule is Elite 8, not Sweet 16. Rule doesn't apply if 9 or more teams from one conference make it.

You are presenting a false dilemma. The choice isn't between a tough schedule and a light schedule. Iowa could have scheduled light, adding in a number of likely wins, without scheduling teams in the 300's of the RPI. Basically schedule teams from the 175-225 range. We as humans recognize those teams as mostly being garbage and likely wins while not presenting much more of a challenge than the 300+ RPI teams, but the RPI draws a huge difference between the two and absolutely punishes teams that schedule the very bottom.
