Last year - start of the year - hammered by Texas, lost to Syracuse in a game we almost came back and won, but were close to getting our doors blown off at points in that game. Got hammered on our home floor by our rival ISU and lost to UNI all before Christmas. The narrative was that there wasn't enough talent to win and that Jok was a bust. Woody continued to regress, MG would never be a good PG in the B1G and Aaron White couldn't hit jump shots. Uthoff was soft and didn't have enough bulk and wasn't aggressive enough. We missed Marble and Fran was going to be on the hot seat. There were posts on here in regards to who do we hire next right before the B1G season got rolling last season.
So, fast forward a year and I see a similar type of feeling from Iowa fans in regards to this season creeping up on this board. The trolls are circling because Iowa hasn't come out looking like the world beaters and I can feel the panic already starting to trickle in.
We've played 2 games this year and people are ready to create the narratives they want to create to sum up an ENTIRE season before its played out.
This team needs time. The new comers, need time. The vets, need time. They are going to be a better team in February then they are in November. Pretty typical for a team bringing on this many new comers. This is a completely different team and the rolls have changed. The defense needs work, it needed work last year at this time. If players aren't playing or red-shirting it doesn't mean they are leaving or will never be able to contribute. I thinki it's a positive sign that we are looking at RS 2 players instead of 1. That means, Fran is comfortable with where we are at.
Fleming isn't a bust just because Brady E looks like he is probably the better option at this point in the season. BE has an entire year in the system. So does Baer. It should be expected that these guys are ahead of some of the new guys at this point of the season.
I think it's good to slow your roll. This team still has the opportunity to be very very good when it matters. I still have high hopes that they will be. Can't wait to see where we stack up with Marquette (a game i predicted that we'd lose on here and got laughed at). I actually like our chances a lot in that game after seeing the team so far...but that's just me.
GO HAWKS - pumped the season is finally here and rolling.
