How open do you all think the playbook gets with Indiana and Iowa St to start?

I think our run game dominates these 1st 2 games. We wont need to open it up when we average 350 yards rushing.

It depends on how quick our offense picks things up and what plays they can run blindfolded. Its less on the staff and more on the players. I think they will have as much playbook in as the offense can master. That being said, they will look to control the line of scrimmage and I look for it to be pretty conservative after learning from early mistakes last year. I'd say they will look to establish Goodson hard and get Tracy and LaPorta involved in the game plan.

Iowa's experienced and deep back seven will keep this game close until the end. Offenses tend to he behind the D's in early games. Expect this game to be played Iowa style and come down to a fumble or a kick late.

Got thinking about this. This is unusual spot for Ferentz. Sure, the clown game is in fairly typical spot at the beginning of the year....but with also another unusual caveat with ISU carrying a preseason Top 10 ranking. Very possible both schools could be carrying high rankings going into that week if Iowa gets by Indiana and ISU does not stub its toe against little cousin.

Does Ferentz unleash the Kraken to get the job done in Weeks 1 and 2? Or, do we see a more workmen like, tempered approach that may have us splitting those games building towards a Title Run in the West Division?

Personally, I think Ferentz will try to out muscle the Hoosiers and hopefully not have to get into a shoot out with them at home. Then see what Petras can do on the road in the following week if we can't get moving conventionally on the ground.
It better open up, because Indiana and the Clowns are going to do everything possible to shut down our running game

I think Ferentz should coach this game like there is no tomorrow. I could see withholding some of the playbook if this was a MAC opponent or FCS but it's not. Indiana is going to treat this game like it's their Super Bowl and Iowa better be ready.
