How many will be at Ross Ade?

Wondering what kind of crowds Purdue is drawing this season? Can we expect a load of Hawk fans there?
Lets give Ross Ade a Band Ade.

I will go if I don't have to work - probably 20% chance I make it. Purdue has resorted to sub-ISU level tactics to get people to games, so I suspect it will be full of Hawk fans.

It is amazing how much Purdue fell off the map since the Joe Tiller days. 15 years ago, Purdue was the most exciting team in the conference. Basketball on grass. Drew Brees leads Purdue to the Rose Bowl. Then in 2003 Kyle Orton has Purdue 5-0 and all Purdue needs to do is run out the clock against Wiscy to go to 6-0, Orton does a bootleg to get the first down, but fumbles. Wiscy picks up the ball and returns it for game winning touchdown. Purdue goes on to lose 4 in a row, and Purdue and has never been the same since. Tiller eventually quits but Purdue was still averaging 50k+ at the time.

Then purdue hires Danny Hope instead of Kevin Sumlin. Purdue completely bottoms out under Hope.

Anyway, it all goes back to that 1 play, the Kyle Orton fumble. I have never seen a program's fortune change so much on just 1 play.

Wow, that is quite a collapse. And kudos to you on being a Boilermaker aficionado. Boiler up!

That is why you never pick a coach based upon him having the same facial hair as the last coach. A man with a mustache has something to hide. In Tiller's case is was a quiet confidence, in Hope's it was incompetence.

First 3 home games

WMU 37,031

CMU 36,410

SIU 31,434

This is their homecoming, so maybe a few more. But not many.

Wow, those are terrible attendance numbers. They have the old style stadium, I have been there once and it is a nice trip.

This is an example of their administration and probably some fans chasing Tiller away. I doubt Tiller "retired" on his own.

And then the guy they hired just failed.

I really wonder if they should have got Tiller to do a renewed effort and at the same time have tiller hire an asst head coach as the head coach in waiting for a few years down the road.

What was Hayden hiding with his?

I shall be at the Purdue game. Figured out that the time it will take for travel there is about the same as my travel time to Iowa City. I have been to Lafayette 2 or 3 times over the years. The stadium is ok, but nothing special and yes, the crowds are really small. Plenty of good sports bars/restaurants; motel prices go up, but the Super 8 is actually fine and one the least expensive @ $140 per night. I go to all of Iowa's away games and really enjoy the different experiences. One of my fondest memories is the trip to Lincoln last fall; there is nothing more exciting than hearing 80,000+ people retreat into dead silence when the Huskers get their ***** handed to them by the Hawks.

I went last year and nearly the entire bleacher section in the end zone was full of Iowa fans. Of course, tickets on StubHub were down to $2 the night before the game and were around $7 or $8 for about a month leading up to it. I see right now they are just over $25. Not sure if the crowd will be as big as last year because it was mainly Iowa fans at the game. The horseshoe section was very sparse when it came to Purdue fans which is the "expensive" seats.

Hope was their head-coach-in-waiting for like 2 years. It was just a bonehead hire. The Tiller regime had run it's course. I think he wanted to promote his DC Brock Spack to the head chair, but there would have been a fan revolt, so Hope was his 2nd choice.

The B1G has seen some awful, awful coaching hires in recent years, and that's why the conference is in the shape it's in currently.

The reason is that most programs don't look for the best coach they look for the best coach with ties to their program. That thinking needs go away once the next round of firings comes around in the next few years. Michigan in particular needs to get it right. I don't care for Michigan but that is a powerhouse program with tons of tradition that lifts up the BIG when its good and drags it down when its bad.

I remember when Hope went to his native Georgia for almost an entire recruiting class....I thought they were going to be loaded with super-athletes....did not seem to pan out. Sumlin seems like a no-brainer now, but not sure he could perform magic without Texas recruits he has now at A & M.

Purdue really does have a great football legacy...better than Iowa, really. Leroy Keyes was such a stud, Len Dawson, Phipps, Hermann, Brees, ect...wish Iowa had some of those QBs over the years. I want to beat them this weekend, but then hope that Hazell makes some progress...seems like a good guy. They have some good skill players, fast. Their d-tackle leads the league in sacks. Their pass rush got good last weekend. Hawks better come ready to battle....beating Iowa would make their season ...a third win would exceed last years total already. I think they can beat NW in WL later in the season...and maybe Ill....and go into the IU game with a shot at a bowl. Lets not let them start that this weekend.

Based on what I read on this site, a similar thing happened at a school much closer to home ... also in a game against Wisconsin.
