throw the ball? I'm saying we can expect between 40-50 passes. Will we need 3 picks?

I they throw that many times I would like to think it means they are trailing in the second half. I would also like to think our pass rush can get to them a few times too.

this^^ If IU is using a short controlled passing game to move the ball and the hawks cant disrupt it then it could be tough. But if they cant run and their QB cant break any runs and scrambles I think the hawks can shut them down somewhat.

Ferentz had a decent track record controlling Joe Tiller's short passing offense once he leveled the playing field from a talent standpoint. Northwestern on the other hand........

Maybe the key to victory is keeping that offense on the sideline. Dominated time of possession, that sort of thing. Forcing some turnovers wouldn't hurt either.

If they do, we win. That many chances for our line to get down is bad.

I’d worry more they start running it well and get playaction going.

Iowa hasn't been good at ball control since Myers and Boettger were injured early last year. This year's offensive line seems to be much better at pass pro. The outside zone running game has been OK when in a run/pass situation but it has been impotent in obvious running situations. Iowa's offense so far has been a mediocre running game mixed with decent big play potential in the passing game. We've seen this many times before. I call it the run...sputter...pass offense.

The jNW coaches have a good formula against us on offense by spreading us out, getting faster wide receivers on our Lbkrs, they always have good running mobile QBs who make our pass rushers chase all around and get tired by the 2nd half, the QBs then make big plays with their feet (see last years big 3rd or 4th down QB draw), they like to send their RBs and a receiver out on little flare routes to always have a safety valve by the sideline so they can dump if off for positive yardage. They have a decent running game.

And the hawks offensive coaches play right into the penetrating/blitzing stacked box defenses jNW uses going back some years

Hayden used to love the quick out pattern on first down. Get into second and short. Keep the defense guessing. Set them up for the home run. Or the deep square out to the left. Long and Happel had that pattern down pat, just watch the 1985 Michigan and MSU replays.

It's how Muhammad Ali used to box. Jab, jab, jab. Didn't look like he was accomplishing much. But over the course of a few rounds it would slow his opponent down just enough and keep him just off balance enough to be susceptible to the big punch.

42 pass attempts for Ramsey, 2 sacks for Iowa. 2 INTs for Iowa. Pretty good prediction here.
